What he means is:
“You should keep buying our expensive product as fast as possible, no matter what anyone else says!”
If AI wins or doesn’t, he will still make all the money. No, reason to not trust him.
They’ve got so much money tied up in chatbot infrastructure that when the bubble pops, they’ll be in a bad way. They’ve got to desperately prop it up to survive.
“buy my shit buy it buy it buy it”
While I do see AI usage as a danger, I don’t see an AI gaining super intelligence within 3 years and killing everyone.
The pollution from the data centers is the bigger threat as is the cognitive decline of the users.
The problem isn’t AI gaining intelligence, it’s allowing AI to have agency and then it gets an potentially dangerous prompt that leads it to hack into, just for the sake of being funny, a bunch of places to delete the entire stock market. As funny as it would be it would lead to a complete economic collapse.
I’d actually feel safer if it did have actual intelligence. We’re talking about a technology where if you have broken unit tests (software term meaning a certain set of tests the code has to pass to be considered functional) and you tell AI to “fix the unit tests” there’s a non-zero chance of it just deleting the tests and saying it’s fixed.
AI is dangerous not in the way movies present it where it gains sentience and wipes us out. It’s dangerous in the opposite way where it doesn’t have intelligence and wipes us out because it doesn’t understand it’s doing something that’s going to kill us.
Those are both valid threats however we’ve also seen LLM agents so some really dangerous stuff with hacking already. They can do a lot of damage to the world just by messing with software. If they attacked the right places the global economy could literally collapse. We’re thoroughly dependent on software to keep nearly everything running these days.
AI Usage should almost be like that teacher that was really good at school. Engaging you to make you better, not replacing you or brainrotting to hell.
I do think the two professions that are likely about to die however are customer service (not all, just 90% of call centre workers) and non-tool assisted programmers.
AI coding is going to be the future but instead of just big corporations doing it people should be using it for building out tools they need. AI in it’s current state is just a smart printer and I’m sure there are a lot of business ideas we haven’t even come up with yet that will make humans and AI complementary, not one to replace another.
I would rather not have AI at all, but pandora’s box is already open and if we don’t at least try and integrate it into our workflows we will be left behind.
TBF, he’s right. AI won’t destroy the world. Humans using AI will.
And especially humans peddling AI.
They are called AI because they are made to simulate humans, so I guess they will also be able to do that by themselves at some point.
We should go as fast as we can
Stockton Rush vibes.

I, for one, would appreciate the demise of another billionaire
You’re so close to the gold bro, just buy a couple more shovels.
No, the gold rush isn’t over, says shovel salesman.
its the jackets, he wants it solid gold.
Definitely no need to regulate my shovels!
Something tells me that he might not be completely objective…
Leopards say there’s 0% chance they would eat everyone’s faces by 2030. Advocates accelerating leopard breeding programs, despite local leopard breeder warnings.
Well he is kinda right you’d don’t want to give epe files linked morons evaluator power
epe files linked morons evaluator power
come again?
“and you should all be wearing black leather jackets!!”
Motherfucker ended the coolness of leather jackets in one swell foop.
Man selling shovels in a gold rush says there’s gold out there, and it is in no way uranium that will give you cancer if you fill your pockets with it. Just keep buying shovels.
Maybe if we knew what the forecast for sales is from AI until 2030 we would know for sure: 60%, 70%, 80%, even 90%?
Remember: Billionaires want an extinction-level event because they believe they will survive it. (But AI is probably not going to be it.)
It’s likely a tool they want to use to accelerate it though.
Although there’s a distinct possibility that they are dumb enough to think that ai can really do it all for them.
I seriously doubt it as well. Chances AI destroys humanity within the next 3 years and 3 months should be close to zero. The conclusion, though! Why would we do that if it destroys us for example by 2034?!??
OpenAI/Anthropic want regulation to make sure they dominate the market and prevent any competition. Nvidia wants no regulation so they can sell as many GPUs as possible and keep driving the prices up. That’s pretty much all there is to this supposed debate about the dangers of AI.
Thanks for pointing it out! And seems they’re doing a phenomenal job. I currently get like 3 articles each day with someone beating the drums and spreading this exact narrative.
I personally believe there’s also publicity reasons here: fearmongering has been working so well for so many, so something as ghoulish as AI companies are sure to use it as well.
Sure. I guess next to what PonyOfWar said, it’s also going to attract investor money if people think their product is super powerful, like being able to extinguish an entire civilization. I mean we do know they phrase something like the report on how that “agent swarm” hacked Huggingface to sound like a thriller movie script. I bet that’s done deliberately and all about publicity.
Shockingly the CEO of the company that would benefit from regulatory capture of AI says that, and the CEO of the company that would suffer from regulatory capture of AI says this. What a shock…
Single handedly made leather jackets feel infinitely lamer.
he should just go full gold jacket.
His denial actually makes the warnings more credible. For a while I was worried why they’d all agree.
Large language models have plateaued is something they won’t admit plus they wanna do the regulations while the Israeli controlled us government is still in power
Wow, so good to have a guarantee of at least 4 years… 🙄
The time to trust what anyone with a profit motive says is long over.
