If you have CHS or CHS like symptoms try a fat soluble thiamine supplement.
Most Americans are actually thiamine deficient.
Truly the word of the century.
I needed a term for the urge I feel every time I read the news, and now I have it.
- Reefer Madness
- You’ll turn gay after one joint
- They’re spraying the weed with rat poison
- It’ll make you scromit
- Your skin will melt off
These are all 100% exactly the same, in that they’re all propaganda
CHS is a real thing, just not as portrayed by the OP. And the US government absolutely sprayed fuckloads of weed with paraquat back in the day, we have declassified files about it, there were hospitalizations, lifelong issues like Parkinson’s and even deaths from it.
Reefer is many times more potent than it was back in Cheech and Chong days. I can see where there would be more side effects.
People have been extracting and concentrating cannanaboids for a long time. If there were more serious side effects from strong weed we’d know.
CHS is 100% a real thing, my wife has it. If she smokes more than a bowl a week, she will scromit. She developed CHS about 18 months after she first started smoking with me. I’ve been smoking for about 40 years, and I’ve never developed CHS. We’re not sure exactly why some people get it and some people don’t, but it is a real phenomenon that can happen to some cannabis users.
I’m pro-weed, pro-legalization, and generally in favor of personal freedom. But pot is not for everyone. It makes my wife incredibly sick. My (adult) daughter gets panic attacks from smoking pot, so she abstains.
I get what you’re trying to say. But the image OP displayed is actually propaganda. I get the feeling a lot of people don’t know what propaganda means and think it’s only something a government does to make you a gungho patriot.
If the argument, info, message, whatever form of communication being delivered to you, is designed to appeal to your emotions, or sway your opinion, even if it contains some mote of truth, it’s propaganda. Smokey the Bear is propaganda. To guilt you into not starting forest fires. It’s for a decent cause, but it’s no less a mascot designed to alter the behaviour of the populace.
A bit of a low bar, as this comment itself is Propoganda… And I agree, everything is and should be treated like propoganda.
Smoking also produces a host of other chemicals, and like tobacco, plenty of harmful ones. It may not be a cannabinoid issue, rather a reaction with some combustion byproduct.
I’m not a doctor, so feel free to disregard any of that :)
We see this from vaping high dose THC.
There’s still combustion byproducts in vape, just less
Jesus fuck that is ignorant. Spend a night in my ER.
I’m sure there’s some clinical documentation of all of this reefer induced disease then?
Surely your ER has to keep records and there’s something… Any kind of clinical evidence that marijuana causes this?
We’ve spent billions and billions and billions of dollars over decades and shredded civil liberties on the so far unevidence claims of marijuana’s danger, if you have actual evidence you have an obligation to come forward with it and present it for scientific review!

It’s called throat singing
The quality of our drug war propaganda is going to shit along with everything else the US makes
It’s laughable at this point. It’s so clearly swarms of bots and not even good propaganda
screxisting - screaming while existing
scronscious - screaming while conscious
scrasturbating - screaming while masturbating (personal favorite of mine)
Scritting - when the haemies flare up real good
Man I’ll never think of scrum the same way again.
Reefer madness
Is it possible to vomit without screaming? Am I just a drama queen?
It’s entirely possible. I could vomit 3 feet away from you, and all you’d hear is the puke hitting the floor. I developed the ability to stealth vomit when I was a secret alcoholic and didn’t want people to get suspicious.
I vomit ever few months (yay cyclical vomiting syndrome) and no screaming. I’ll be angry but not screaming. And more like. “How dare you body. You can digest this you dumbass stomach”. But the actual vomiting is just. Retching sounds?
I tend to sing Rigoletto when I baritomit, I assumed everyone was the same
i reckon it’s maybe an attempt at a new name for projectile vomiting? i know last time i got stomach flu was the only time i can remember making involuntary sounds while vomiting.
How much is too much? My wife and I smoke a joint at night 7 days a week for the past year. Is that too much?
Oh you can relax, this is 100% propaganda. The bots are going to light me up for this, but it’s just not a real documented thing

Hmm very suspicious
Damn, it’s bros first comment after lurking nearly a year and this is what they get? Geeze it’ll probably be another year before they want to comment again.
Oh don’t sweat it, “bro” is ChatGPT or Opus 4.7
Ah, yes, attack the person, ignore the data.
Can you explain how that’s an attack? Isn’t that just normal pointing out bots? And don’t just lazily spam an ad hominem link, since bots don’t have persons to attack
Attacking a human person and accusing an account of being a bot are completely separate things
This is a lazy argument on your part. I disagree with your evaluation
Raises hand meekly… I do in fact get this if I’ve been consistent for a long-ass time, not necessarily the dose size, but I swear to god you could replace my pen with ipecac and it would be the same experience. That said, long breaks “reset” it for me.
And while I don’t personally know anyone with the same problem, there are thousands of stories both online and IRL for me of “friend of a friend can’t smoke weed anymore because of it”.
I’m super curious now… Are you screaming while vomiting? And this is a different urge than what you feel for a “normal” vomit? Like there is a compulsion to scream while you’re doing it?
Edit: hmmm, no reply. I think this person may have scromitted themselves to death
Its extremely well documented. This is exactly why you shouldnt take medical advice online seriously. It just stems from an over saturation of cannaboid receptors. The same receptors whose antiemetic effects are useful for cancer patients or other nausea prone patients can be reversed by over saturation of the receptor. It can be fixed typically by a period of abstinence that lets the receptors reset, but some people can never really partake again.
I say this as someone who worked as a nursing assistant and used to be an anatomy/biology tutor in college. I also have smoked way more weed than any of you over the past decade. If you havent seen any evidence of this, its because you have no idea how to look.
I also have smoked way more weed than any of you over the past decade
well now im going to assume the whole message is nonsense. good day.
You don’t smoke more than I do. Shut the fuck up.
I don’t think you’ve smoked more weed than me.
Lol, sure. You literally know no one here but insist you “smoke more weed than any of us” you’re propaganda. 100%.
It is extremely well documented
“Trust me bro”
Then I get 10 links that could have been published by the GOP for $30 each. Laughable
Okay then YOU set the standards of proof. Anything other than a direct experience, what would you consider credible as a source of counterargument?
Pretty sure this is actually a real thing, however this Philadelphia Inquirer bit is def written like propaganda
estimated 32% prevalence among cannabis users
113 cases documented worldwide
never heard of it despite your social circle being mostly daily smokers of high-thc weed
Lol definitely not a propaganda thing, and all of us 339 pot smokers should be worried

If you’re scromitting less than 4 times a day I think you’re in the clear.
Let’s see, wake up, dab, scromit, eat potato, drink coffee, brush teeth, dab, do homework, scromit, go to class, go to work, come home, dab, do more homework, scromit, brush teeth, go to bed.
Phew, just made it on a normal day!
3 out of 5 dentists recommend waiting at least 30 minutes before brushing your teeth after scromiting.
Call your doctor if a scrommit lasts longer than four hours, though!
If Cannabinoid Hyperemesis Syndrome is real then it’s extremely rare. Just look at People like Willie Nelson or Snoop. Fact is this syndrome was only first described after Colorado legalized cannabis recreationally. So even though many many people smoked just as much before legalization it somehow only became an issue afterward? Anecdotally I know a lot of people who smoke a lot of weed. Personally neither my wife and I have been sober for more than maybe a month in the last decade and a half, and I still smoke a lot more than just half a j at the end of the day. Sometimes if I don’t smoke and I don’t eat I get kinda nauseous. The same thing will happen if I do smoke and I don’t eat. I have/get every illness, if this was a thing I would have it lol
Yeah, legalization widens the sample group of users effectively, which will cause rarer symptoms to appear among people who have sensitivities to things they wouldn’t otherwise have known
I would bet it happens more among people who overconsume edibles, which definitely became more accessible after legalization
I smoked 4 huge cones to the dome today in between vapes. And that’s just joints. I know a lot of people that smoke weed. Never seen this.
I do think it’s propaganda. I’ve seen doctors write people immediately off and blame the weed if they tell the truth. Like people with the fucking flu not taken seriously and told it was smoking weed. Some people will blame all sorts of things if they get sick.
Yeah I literally never heard of this before like 2022, and basically every friend I’ve had for the better part of 30 years has been a daily user at some point. This includes dabbing, concentrates, edibles, etc. so it isn’t just a potency thing. These are people who were basically stoned every waking minute of every day in college and early careers. There’s definitely something fishy here.
Incidentally, everyone is doing fine professionally as well. Lawyers, engineers, doctors, entrepreneurs, and so on. So even the previous propaganda of “weed makes you lazy and dumb” is BS too.
I will say I think my mom gets it. She used to smoke for nausea and sleep, and one day it just didnt help. Found out it was making things worse rather than better, and once she stopped it was gone. Hasn’t felt the desire to touch it since.
Don’t get me wrong, this is likely being way overblown, and I’m a daily dabber myself so I dont want to come across like I support the fear-mongering, but I have seen evidence myself of at least its existence. Might be a misdiagnosis even, but nothing else changed and things improved for her. Not sure how common it is, or how severe it typically is, but to me it’s an accepted risk like skin cancer and sunlight. I’ll cross that bridge if it comes and deal with it appropriately, but I’m not hiding inside out of fear.
I have smoked to some level, nearly every single day, for 15 years. I haven’t scromited once.
It’s probably different for different people. I smoke a fat bowl every morning, and sometimes a second one at night, and I’m fine. I’ve been smoking for about 40 years. My wife was smoking a gram or two a day for roughly 18 months, and she developed CHS. She took a month long t-break, and the symptoms went away. Now, if she smokes more than once a week, they come back, so she only smokes with me on Monday nights.
Smoking weed can be just as bad for your lungs as cigarettes. It creates tar deposits and can affect your vascular system as well.
You should consider vaporizers or using oils.
As far as frequency goes, I treat it like alcohol. I consume it on occasion to relax, during social events, concerts, etc. Any more frequent becomes a habit. That’s when it’s a problem.
Combustion products are always bad for your lungs, but cigarettes supposedly have stuff in them that is uniquely bad and especially carcinogenic.
Much of the bad stuff in cigarette smoke is caused by combustion. Cannabis smoke shares many of these chemicals also due to combustion.
don’t forget camp fires
and car exhaust
No. That’s barely enough, really. 😋
“How much is too much” really depends on the person, but I’ll venture to say that a single shared joint a day is not enough to induce scromiting in anyone remotely tolerant.
Depends on the person. Everyone reacts differently to any drug, and cannabis is no different in this respect.
I have friends who consume once or twice per day, any more and they’re not functional enough for the day. I have friends who consume once every few weeks, any more and it causes issues for them.I consume 2-3g of flower per day, throughout each day, alongside the occasional hashish and edible, and I’ve accomplished a fair bit from an unconditional offer to university for History BA Hons, worked for a US gov contract with the Affordable Care Act, etc. etc. (currently taking a change of direction and getting into a more creative field).
If most people smoked like I do, the last thing they would be doing is reading novels and research articles like myself.
Everyone is different. Really pay attention to how your consumption affects you, and make a sober assessment on whether it’s something that you’re comfortable fitting into your life in the manner in which you consume. The truth that many people don’t say, and this is coming from a consumer of just over two decades, is there are plenty of people for which cannabis is NOT good for, and provides more detriment than benefit.
Listen to your body and mind, is all I can suggest, but if you feel that it doesn’t cause conflicts in your daily living I wouldn’t worry about it. Enjoy the ganja, find something tasty and have a good time :)
I smoked daily for 20 years and just 3 months ago I came down with this. Felt like food poisoning but my wife ate the same stuff as me and she never got sick.
Can confirm I scromitted, although any time I have thrown up in the past I also was quite loud.
Were you diagnosed or did you feel sick and blame it on the weed because you don’t have a better explanation?
Or it was food poisoning.
No, you didn’t
almost certainly not too much
however the wise and financially savvy toker takes a tolerance break at least once a year to reset tolerance and spend less $. A four week break every year means you’re spending way less to get the same effects
also the wise and financially savvy toker switches from combustion to edibles or dry herb vapes so they stop inhaling hydrogen cyanide, ammonia, benzene, formaldehyde, and other carcinogens with every hit. Each of those are cancerous which is no bueno. Who cares if it’s “better than cigarettes” it’s like saying stabbing yourself with a small knife is better than with a big knife. Also edibles and herb vapes are a lot more efficient so you’ll get a stronger effect for less $
I’m just interested to see how long Snoop Dogg lives Edit: if you’re actually curious, I think it depends on the person but I have a prescription and comsume a lot more than that for 15+ years, I think you’re good.
IMO it’s the smoking that’s bad, not the drug.
It typically doesn’t set on until you’ve been smoking like that for years.
But smoking like that is like driving a tractor-trailer down a steep hill. It’s hard to stop.
No.
You’re right it must have been the simultaneous years of heavy drinking that wrecked my stomach
Simultaneous, you say? Impressive.
It makes me scrasterbate violently.
I get kicked out of every apartment I move into.
Interesting. Although users in Philadelphia can cross the river to New Jersey to buy legal cannabis, it’s only available in Pennsylvania with a medical card. I have to wonder if these cases are coming from people who bought weed legally in a neighboring state, or is it happening with people who consumed unregulated alternatives (like Delta-8) from places like smoke shops and gas stations?
So maybe they’re just vomiting because they went to NJ
No, its from legit sources. It’s been a more and more popular diagnosis the last 5 or 6 years. I first saw it around 2018 in a legal state. One someone has it they kind of just have it and any THC use will cause the symptoms. It’s n/v and abd pain characterized by recent cannabis use in a chronic cannabis use patient. I’ve never seen it in anyone who described themselves as moderate. Relief with hot showers and worsening with cannabis use are the diagnostic criteria other than personal/social hx.
The doctors I worked with felt like it was due to the low price and availability of concentrates.
Do you know the reason taking hot showers is part of the criteria?
Do I know why it works to lessen the symptoms? No, not in the way that I’d put my name behind. It’s part of the diagnostic criteria because “relief with hot shower” doesn’t usually work for those symptoms if the cause is something else.
Interesting. Thank you for taking the time to reply!
To make it sound scarier. That’s it, because it’s not even a real thing
Speaking from personal experience, I live in PA and I have a medical card (which is incredibly easy to get FWIW). I only buy lab tested dispensary bud. My wife developed CHS smoking with me. I did not develop CHS, and we were smoking the exact same product.
Delta-9 is legal federally, as long as it is derived from hemp. It just takes a shit load more plant matter. It’s dumb, but it’s still d-9 I guess.
Some states have created their own laws against it, but I’m not sure if PA is one.
FYI, the laws and attitudes regarding cannabis in Philly aren’t going to always align with PA’s. I know that, for years, cannabis use was decriminalized in Philadelphia, even while it was still illegal in PA for medical. It was de facto legal in Philly.
Damn this meme thread turned into some otherwise semi-serious cannatalk. Everyone just needs to chill out and smoke a joint.
I think I have a life goal now to hit back-to-back blinkers until I scromit. Though I’m pretty sure I’ve scromitted when sick with food poisoning. Might be different. Idk. I’m like 6 blinkers deep.
My gastroenterologist had this on the short list of why I was vomiting randomly but 1. It’s not screaming 2. Hot baths didn’t help in the slightest (I wished) and 3. I don’t smoke only eat it.
Current going plan is cyclical vomiting syndrome. Yaaay.
I don’t smoke only eat it.
Why would that make a difference? CHS is caused by cannabis use, not specifically cannabis smoking, no?
Well, he seemed to think so. But if so, then the fact I eat like half a 10mg occasionally would also put it well below the use of high.
CHS is the doctor’s go-to default for CVS patients if there is ANY cannabinoids detected. They really don’t want to commit to exploring treatment for CVS without ruling out CHS. If cannabis helps with CVS symptoms, and you dont have CHS, it can be struggle.
But… when he heard how little I use it, he did go to cyclical vomiting syndrome. I’m using amitryptiline to control it and it’s working quite well?
He seem more surprised I had read a paper on the subject and then we talked about publishing papers?
What he wanted to rule out was possibility of other stomach issues like gastritis and cancer so we did an upper endoscopy then went to amitryptiline.
That’s good to hear. Two members of my extended family have a CVS diagnosis and dont have CHS. It’s been a struggle.
Amitryptiline helps with sleep, which is a huge factor for the people in my family.
All the best.
The dosage of amitriptyline is so small it’s only really good for stopping the stomach from vomiting! If it’s meant to help me sleep, the dosage is too low, alas.
Yeah, it’s a hot new thing so it’s definitely getting overprescribed. I got diagnosed with it after some intermittent vomiting with lots of nausea. After the symptoms still persisted after six months without smoking any, they started to take me a little more seriously. I’ve also known friends who’ve had issues misdiagnosed.
At this point, it seems like if you’ve smoken marijuana and have any stomach issue, they’ll say it’s CHS
I promise, it was just a few lines during my appointment, and he settled on cyclical vomiting syndrome even quicker ;_;
The questions were like, “Do you smoke? No? Do hot baths help? No? Oh you’ve heard of it! You read a paper? Oh I mostly do papers blah blah blah” then he asked more questions and it was just “Yeah you almost undoubtedly have cyclical vomiting syndrome, but I want to do an upper endoscopy just to make sure it’s not gastritis or cancer or something horrible. You have textbook definitions of cyclical vomiting syndrome” and when I got home and read them it was like. Yep! Sure fucking do.
But I get why he asked, cause the two do seem to have a lot of overlapping symptoms.
Yea I’d be getting another opinion.
