I would date a Republican unless they ever voted for Trump or a MAGA candidate.

There’s not many of them, but they’re out there.

Trump is a symptom, not a cause. You might say, a secondary illness thst causes other things like organ failure.

Republicans have been working towards this since Nixon.

That includes people like McCain and Susan Collins.

It all boils down to Barry fucking Goldwater. He made a game plan with a swappable villain, started with the southern strategy, where the villain was black people, as things changed the plan stayed the same and just kept switching their villain to appease single issue voters/fucking idiots.

If you can get people to vote for, or more importantly against, one specific thing without considering anything else then everything else you want to do is added to the free space slot.

Edit: This should be conspiratorial nonsense, but luckily Kissinger and Nixon were recording everything the other did, including all of both of their political plannings with Goldwater, and these meetings are very well documented and archived. It was a terrible plan, but a solid one, and it worked and is still working. Everyone telling you not to vote is a part of this very plan, regardless of how aware they may or may not be. We have always lived in a clown country.

As an example of someone opposed to Trump? You’re right. Good luck finding a republican today that fits that.

As a republican often cited as “one of the good ones”, though? She’s perfect.

I think it’s possible for someone to still be a good person and vote for the Republican candidate, depending greatly on the candidate. If you vote for Trump in 2016 or later, for example, you’re voting for a rapist bigot who wants to be a dictator, so we will never be reconciled.

Same goes for voting Bush in 2004; you’re voting to keep the Patriot Act. Cannot reconcile.

But presidential elections are not the only ones. Local members can be quite different from their party. It’s not common any more, there’s been purges.

It greatly depends on whether they agree on shared facts, and willing to change their minds based on that.

        If not, there’s no hope.

I think anyone who still identifies as a republican at this point is a fascist piece of shit.

Hard to argue against that. If I continued defending the tiny minority at this point it would be merely pedantry.

the number of republicans who made it to a general election anywhere in the country in the last eight years that doesn’t support at least one main point of dipshit’s agenda can probably be counted on one hand…made into a fist.

In this day and age, no clue. You have to look way back to find a decent prominent Republican, possibly Eisenhower.

it’s very hopeful of you to think that the party can be saved by people with real principles.

also, as soon as the candidate you voted for toes the party line when you know they shouldn’t, you’re basically the same as every other Republican. do you want to take that risk? I wouldn’t.

Perhaps. Although you may have mistaken me for someone who assumes the best of a Republican when I meet them. It’s the opposite.
