What a weird way of describing the situation. It’s as is both sides are at fault, when in fact it’s a blatant war of aggression started by Trump. Trump could order the troops home at any time and that’d be the end of the war. The Iranians hate us, and I despise their religious conservative leaders, as I despise all religious conservatives, but they are not attacking us. Nobody wants this war besides the gulfies, the Israelis and idiot Trump.

Naw, the Republicans have been praying for war with Iran since before I was born. Why do you think they are so quiet right now? They are getting exactly what they want!

Everything else you said checks out.

I remember when Russia first started attacking Ukraine and they were taking on losses. The articles were like “They better be careful! Russia is going to get serious soon!”

Turns out Russia was a paper tiger.

    Anyway…

They’ve destroyed multiple bases at a cost of billions of dollars, injured hundreds of American troops, and killed dozens. We’ve launched hundreds of missiles and bombs at them.

    Teeters?

Just a reminder that Republicans could stop this madness in three days if they wanted to grow a spine.

I think the world knows that this war is too costly to fight, but does Trump know?

He’s already gotten out of the deal and is back to bombing, but what can he achieve? There’s not enough troops for a ground invasion and I see no reason that would change.

Trump doesn’t see anything as too expensive unless it’s not for him. And this war is very much for him.

He’s never paid a bill that he could weasel out of. It’s even been caught on camera that he promised to pay for people’s meals and almost walked out before being “reminded”.

I have to think the Saudis have told him “no nukes otherwise we cut off all the remaining oil and all the money we’re funneling you” because everyone in his cabinet is a yes man and Hegseth is foaming at the mouth to kill as many people as possible.

Edit: the other thing is that nuking the country isn’t going to fix the problem of “how do we get the oil flowing again?” because the radiation might make the whole fucking gulf impassable.

Winds tend to go from west to east, so as long as it’s not directly on the strait or coast, that wouldn’t be too much of a problem. Also bomb detonation has significantly less fallout than a meltdown. So a ship transiting the strait likely wouldn’t get enough to make it much of a big deal.

The big deal would be the geopolitics and becoming a pariah state worse than Russia. Unfortunately the home politics wouldn’t change much. You have no idea how many times I heard Rs say “we should just turn the whole region into glass.” Usually after they’ve heard I’m a veteran and think I’m on their side. It’s fucking disgusting how flippantly racist and inhumane they are.

I try to tell myself those people are brainwashed or trapped in an information bubble, I really do, but I just think they’re bad people at this point.

Treat others the way you want to be treated cuts both ways and if these people can’t treat other humans with respect why should I respect them at all?

Yeah, I try to tell them that very few of them are true “terrorists”. Many of the people who were suicide bombers were coerced by terrorists with threats against their families, or promised money to their family upon completion. I tell them how good most of the people were and would offer food to us from their own lunch, even knowing we had free food from the US govt. Many wanted to know more about America, and loved the music and movies.

Some of those people visibly softened their stance. Others would just “yeah but” to no end. Like dude, I was there. I experienced it. Those fox news people? They weren’t there, you weren’t there, and you’re arguing with me? 5 minutes ago you thanked me for my service, now you’re denying my experience there? Some you can reach, some you can’t.

Sorry it’s already pivoted to “optimism as parties discuss 10 day ceasefire” and oil is down.
