The size difference is cool, but only girls who have brothers realize the strength and physical difference. It’s even a bigger gap. My sister gets freaked out every time she sees me do something physical.

And I’m not even that big, just very strong.

Interestingly enough, I’m the opposite. Stopped lifting weights, cycling and all the other physical activity I used to do, gained 30 kilos over the next 5 years. Joy of going from being a student to having a depressing job.

The grazing habit stayed and the body for sure forgot how to burn 5000 kcal a day so even if I ate less than I used to, I still gained weight.

it’s CRAZY how much bigger men are than women

i used to be a pretty big woman, 5’10/180 lbs. then i transitioned. same height (height gain on t is basically not real, unfortunately), and i weigh around 200 lbs. but now it’s WAY more muscle (no more boobs + at around 20% bodyfat). i’m built like a fucking tank now, i feel like i occupy so much more space horizontally. my neck and shoulders and arms and legs and everything are so much THICKER

(also, it turns out, men eat WAY MORE than women, too. all this extra mass doesn’t support itself 💀 easily need an extra 1000+ calories nowadays)

I thought you were going to say that at 5’10 as a woman you were considered quite tall and now as a dude 5’10 is average.

Men eat so much more than women, it’s a little crazy to witness sometimes! My partner is almost always willing to clear my plate after he’s cleared his and I’m so full I can hardly move haha

Age and activity level plays a big role here. For instance, a 30-40s mildly active man of avg weight might eat less than a smaller 20-30s active woman.

N of 2, but for example my partner (F) is a bit younger than me (M), and also a cyclist (about 3-4 times my volume of riding). She can easily out eat me, and will finish my plate despite being over 20% lighter than me.

Testosterone is literally a steroid. It’s sort of a reductive statement but you don’t really think about it often.
It basically acts as a multiplier for the “grow muscle” signals your body can produce.
Men and women can easily have the same outcomes for muscle mass and calorie requirements, but men might not have to work as hard to get there owing to the higher testosterone multiplier on average.

I’ve also heard that it makes your skin act weird. Several trans people I’ve talked to have all mentioned that getting their hormones managed made their skin care routine either way easier or harder in a sort of “holy shit” way.

True, and my above statement could be due to testosterone reduction with age in many cases. Testosterone levels also have huge variances in men.

100%! I meant my statement as building on yours, not contradicting. :)

Any time you talk about hormones you have to couch everything in a thick layer of “usually”, “often”, and “tend”. Biology varies a lot, and hormones vary more than most of the stuff.

The eating thing is too real. I saw an adorable Mexican waif taking her lunch break the other day when I was eating my own lunch. She got some sort of enchilada type thing from Taco Bell, where she works so she can make her own dishes, while I got my normal Supreme Luxe Box.

For comparison, my meal comes with chips and cheese, a taco, a chalupa, a burrito, and a drink. She had a single burrito covered in red sauce. She ate half, packaged it up and took the rest home. I vacuumed up the crumbs from my wrappers.

Admittedly I can probably use her as a dumbbell/ bar weight, provided she can plank properly. I would guess that she is 162-167 cm, and 49-50 kg. I’m 192-193 cm and 104kg

I guess I meant more like getting strong. I have a hard time keeping my bench stats up since I’ve got a whiny back and cardio is more my thing (endorphins).

Personally, I try not to focus on body fat because that feels more negative to me. Like I’d rather focus on feeling good and making gains than losing weight. Less guilt involved imho.

i’m not really a big gym guy, my activity is largely functional, although sometimes i’m fudging it (been taking a large box of stuff on a walk, for example)

there’s some newer science showing artificial loading of weight will lead to a reduction in bodyfat, so i’ve been wearing a weighted vest. between that and walking a lot, i have lost a lot of bodyfat but also built substantial muscle because… i’m heavier

so maybe something like that could help you get workouts in?

i mean, i got a recumbent etrike for getting around town. i get my exercises and my funs in at the same time i do my chores.

i’m incredibly fortunate that where i live has extant infrastructure for that. 20 years ago two lycra dudes got theirselves elected to city council and county controller, uh, i don’t remember what those boards are called but they got the infrastructure in. also helped a lot with the homeless programs so like, i like these lycra dudes.

Yeah bike infrastructure has got a lot better here too. I live in a small town and don’t even need a car, it’s great.

The homeless programs could really use some more support though. We got plenty of fancy private condos and overpriced rentals going up, so I fear we got the bougie nimby type of lycra dudes

sorry, idk how to do instance-agnostic links 😭

that said, i only started working out after being on testosterone for a couple of years. and in those first few years, i still got substantially bigger just from the testosterone. so i mean, the testosterone effect is real lol

6’5" here. Because very few people are noticeably taller than I am, when I meet someone who is it’s a crazy experience especially 7ft+.

I can recall being stun locked by having to look up at someone much taller than me 5 times total in my 35 years alive so far since middle school.

The opposite doesn’t really phase me until I’m physically holding a significant other. Then I’m like holy shit you’re tiny! Dunno why it doesn’t quite register until then.

Speaking of, I actually found a partner who’s exactly my height. Not that I would’ve ever said that was a requirement, but it is nice being in a relationship with someone you can just look straight in the eye without moving your head.

I think we got enough of us to start a league. Because my wife bowls too. And i got a great restaurant for after league (when they tore down the old alley, the restaurant there was good enough to open its own location. still open, uh, they tore down the alley when i was a kid and i’m in my 40s)

and they only tear them down to build newer, shittier, more expensive ones without cigarette stains on the drop ceiling. FIST POINT: you could get rid of the drop ceiling way cheaper. SECOND PUNCH POINT: is a bowling alley without cigarette stains on the ceiling really a bowling alley at all?

that’s new. i’m 5’7"-5’9" depending on how bad my hunch is for the day. my wife is usually a little bit taller than me. most women your height that i tried to date just screamed “are you six feet tall” at me before running away in terror like they’d just watched a non-disney disney movie starring frollo.
