Considering they’re in a neighborhood with a HOA, they might have to rake the leaves or get slapped with a fine. Many HOAs are strict about lawns.

I never thought I’d say this, but our HOA and HOA president is sick AF. This little old lady don’t give a fuck about the normal HOA shit. Semi truck parked in the driveway? Whatever. Grass getting 2ft long? doesn’t matter unless the city sends a registered letter. HOA dues are like $25/year so the planter in the front of the neighborhood can get replaced 3 times a year.
Most are power tripping assholes who are constantly comparing with their neighbors.
It’s funny I was just talking to my oldest, who said “I never feel more like a middle aged Karen than when I have to call the non emergency police line about something going on” and I said “I don’t know how I didn’t manage to raise you with a healthy fear of the police. I have called them once only.”
I remember what I called them about, too. The police helicopter was circling and circling and the baby (same one who is the woman in the comment above) kept crying because she couldn’t sleep, I called 911, asked for the non emergency #, called and asked what the heck was going on, told them if they were chasing someone they had lost them. They put me on hold then came back and said it was training! I told them it had been hours and my kid couldn’t sleep. It did end soon after (probably nothing to do with my call) and hopefully at least let them know it was problematic.
How about instead of bitching online and wanting to try to get their neighbor in trouble, Karen grows a pair and goes and has a civil conversation with the neighbor. If they are as friendly as stated, that would be the adult thing to do.
It brings up the question of environmental conventions.
Like imagine you lived in one place in the world, then moved to another. Certain expectations of behavior would almost certainly be super different.
Let’s say something you do isn’t the norm there, but was the norm where you moved from, and that thing you do bothers other people.
Whose responsibility is it to act?
Yours, who has just moved somewhere new and different?
Or theirs, who are irritated by the behavior or thing?
Should contact the FCC about theír illegal solicitation of being the first neighborhood to get Google fiber?

I was thinking the same, I’d like more context though, if it’s a quick throttle blip (or like if they’re driving stick and need to reverse the car up a slope) could be understandable. If they’re bouncing it off the rev limiter for a minute that’s a different kettle of fish. Given the rest of the post I’m erring on the side of it being blown out of proportion.

My sister and her husband pass out cotton candy for the kids and cocktails for the parents on Halloween. They are the favorite house on many people’s trick-or-treat route. They’ve done it for so long that kids that grew up in the area are grown and excited to bring their own children to their house.

We’ve got a guy who’s a wine distributor. On Halloween, adults get to try and compare a few different wines. Love it.
I know this is not the point of this but raking (and mowing) lawns needs to stop being a thing. It’s bad for the lawn, the plants around, the essential bugs, and bad for the environment. Even aesthetically, it looks bland and stupid.
I think monoculture lawns look really cool and doubly so if they are neat and clean with some nice landscaping to pair. It can be gorgeous.
Unfortunately, it’s unethical, unsustainable, and I will avoid it myself, but to say it looks bland and stupid seems like your prerogative is to shame other people into doing the right thing. Which, good luck with that.
That’s fair, probably just my subjective opinion. But i don’t understand why so many people don’t find a diversity of plants and colors more beautiful and simulating to the mind than a monoculture. It’s your prerogative to think it looks nice too i guess.
A lot of people don’t have the artistic capability and aren’t willing to put in the effort to make an entire diverse yard landscape look good, let alone maintain it. Now, when well done, of course a diverse yard can also look great.
But, it’s not like you can just neglect your yard and mother nature will bless you with a beautiful ecosystem in time because of your good intentions. You’re going to be dealing with dead shit, non-native weeds, non-native insects. And depending on where you live there might not be a whole lot of anything lively to look at entirely naturally occurring.
You have me curious what your landscape looks like if you are a homeowner.
I also think it looks really wasteful and ugly. Seriously I dont understand how beauty is in the eye in the beholder in this case.
I do think lawns need maintenance but not every Monday morning at 6AM holy shit fuck you lawnmowers.
