Did you wake up crabby?
Who, me? Yes, you!
Well, you woke up crabby,
Let me tell you what to do:
Put a crab stick in your face!
We’ve got all the crabs in the same place,
It’ll rid you of all your acne and your flab,
The only thing it can’t do is be real crab!
Imitation crab tastes great, and isn’t really all that similar to crab. It’s a fish product good enough to stand up for itself, does not need to hide
That’s the general consensus in my social circle as well. It’s not fooling anybody, but we appreciate it for what it is. Fishham with shellfish flavoring.
Acting on your best behaviour
Turn your back on Mother Nature
Everybody wants to be a crab.I hate those, it tastes like sweet fish.
That’s exactly what it is
A rare food based example of Carcinisation
I like to get whiskey shitfaced and eat six packs of imitation crab.
Oh no you don’t! Stabbo Crabbo, he’s eating something that kinda tastes like you but isn’t! Get 'im!
Mess with the crab, you get the stab. I have a picture I made of that on another phone. Sadly not this one.
Alan’s fact of the day.
I fucking love imitation crab, so fun to peel apart and eat like string cheese.
If you enjoy this, never lookup how its made.
I still eat it though.
Is it like a fish hotdog or something?
The electrical industrial machinery that are used to manufacture this specific product includes names like “scum sucker” and “meat pump”. These are pumps that were designed to move fluids, and the “meat” moves like a fluid under pressure. The chutes that move the solids - before they become… a sort of slurry - collect lighter fats, skin, and scales and they form a sticky gelatinous stalactite. They grow up to a meter or two before they break and fall.
It is a sight to see. My favorite cannery was on an active volcano. You had to take a hovercraft to get there; or a helicopter in high winds; and if the weather was too bad you had to hitch a ride with the haulers. Those things walz through extreme swells like it tickles. Not far from dutch harbor. I think it was akutan. Pretty wild though. Still can’t eat the stuff, I took one of those fish tentacles down the back of my shirt, and I threw those clothes away. They also made fich sticks. Same recipe I suppose.
Sound a little like Chicken Nuggets. And those are great
I looked up how it’s made. I don’t understand what’s objectionable about it. Not seeing any step or ingredient in the process that I haven’t used in my own kitchen, minus the mass production and food colouring.
holy shit I’m just learning about this now?!?! I have a mild allergy and apparently I can now enjoy* one of my favorite foods I’ve been unable to eat for years?!?! thank you so much OP 🩷🩷
*I just get really inflamed and feel horrible if I eat it. I won’t die, just not a good experience. An article says it’s like ~2% crab meat and even if I have a horrible experience I think it’s worth a try with a benadryl on hand.
Just don’t look up how it’s made. I still eat it but it’s definitely on my mind when I do.
Sort of like hot dogs. I’ll eat them, but try not to know, how they’re made
Surimi with a bit of melted butter is better than popcorn.
One of my lazy meals is to saute up some flaked surimi in butter with garlic powder and salt. So satisfying.
Does imitation crab get impostor syndrome?
I read some strange philosophy paper about if inanimate objects actually have desires. It argued that they want to be used for their intended purpose. So I think as long as someone is enjoying them, they are content.
At one point that was a fish…I don’t think its intended purpose was to get mutilated, processes to look vaguely like crab meat and eaten. But I’m not a fish, so I could be wrong.
No this paper was definitely talking about pens and various hand tools. Nothing biologic at all.
I knew the paper was about something else, I was applying the philosophy to the picture of imitation crab.
reminds me of this vid:
https://youtu.be/mhGy-pj1yw0Yeah, just using it as a jumping off point having no other frame of reference. I personally do not believe inanimate objects have a conscious.
Edit to add other than the little toaster!
I like where your head is at
I hate imitation, crab.
i always felt weird about it. for me it never quite rose to levels of ‘the ick’ but i can totally understand how it might trip past the threshold for others.
