Fun anecdote - yesterday my new phone overheard me say something about rescheduling a vacation day. It then proceeded to add a “Vacation” booking on a completely random day.
Naturally I asked it what the fuck it was doing, and demanded it remove its permissions to edit my calendar. It quickly apologized, then assured me it had removed its capability to edit my calendar. I told it to not lie to my fucking face, realizing it could not in fact update its own permissions. It apologized again, presumably for being a pathological liar / asshole.
Then I disabled Gemini on my phone, and won’t be using it again. Thanks google!
“I’m Feeling Lucky” is a good name for letting AI choose for you anyway. Jesus take the wheel.
Right! It even says AI is known for making mistakes on the bottom of all its results. Lol
“I’m Feeling Unlucky”
The “Search” button is already AI mode 😂
I think I’ve clicked that button once in maybe 15 years. IMO it’s useless and I’m surprised it has taken them this long to do something about it. I wonder what the click stats for that one button are.
It’s probably something to do with the user feeling like they have a choice or something, even if it’s a meaningless choice.
Like when at work and you present a bad idea next to the idea you want people to pick so they feel included in the decision process.
Like when at work and you present a bad idea next to the idea you want people to pick so they feel included in the decision process.
This is a risky tactic, specially if the bad idea sounds compelling enough to dim-witted people
I used to use it… I thought it would take you straight to the first result (but it’s been a long time since I used it)… Now all the top results are hot garbage.
I went to Bing a while back.
It’s great.
I’m not a Bing fan either because it used to be regurgitated Google results. For now I’m just self-hosting an instance of SearXNG.
Copilot is pretty good for Azure stuff though, really I just like it because it always has links back to Microsoft’s documentation (even though it’s constantly changing).
I don’t think I’ve ever used it. And I google a lot of “things.”
Especially right now, I’m feeling lots of things but “lucky” ain’t one…
Having two buttons probably looks nicer so I guess it was decorative.
Take the ai out of the main search results and I’m fine with it being there as a button. Oh wait, is that not what they are going to do?
How else are they going to be able to brag about their 90 trillion daily AI users?
The I’m feeling lucky button is still there?
Rename it to “Hallucinate now”
Rename it the “I’m enshittifying in the name of bullshit trends and shareholder value” button
I remember a time where that button just were there, in a useless way, because if you just type a fcking letter Google automatically started to search for it sending you to another page where the “I’m feeling lucky” button were no more.
Does that mean, I don’t get hallucinations, if I don’t press the AI Button?
