IDK that I love the implications of this post.
Billionaires existing is bad. Whether they were “losers” as children/teens is irrelevant to the badness.
I think that a super popular person growing up rich and eventually becoming a billionaire could easily be more actively narcissistic or psychopathic. Debatably just as bad.
Same can be said for members of SCOTUS
That
implicatesimplies that it’s a factor whether a potential billionaire was bullied or not and that we would not suffer if they were not bullied. The fact alone that billionaires exist is enough to make us suffer.
We should have beat them up in high school a lot more
That would create bitter people that feel like the world owes them something. Be compassionate with those around you - especially those that are nice, but maybe a tad weird. It’ll help them, and they’re quite often the most interesting people to spend time with
Sure, but some dude defending nazis definitely needs punched in the face.
Fair
Maybe we shouldn’t have bullied them. Or bullied them harder, i don’t know
Harder. MUCH harder
They’re still losers what are you talking about brother.
Two things at the same time
Suffering and loosers?
I don’t fucking understand how you can be such an insecure lover freak WHEN YOU ARE THE RICHEST MAN IN HISTORY!
Like holy shit. You won. You fucking won in a way no one else can win. Those asshole bullies who called you a loser? You can hire private detectives to track them down and then drive a giant ass limo with the hottest models on earth with you and roll up to their asses and say ‘what ho, douchebags? I heard your mom needs new panties because she is a slut’ and then throw a bundle of cash at them and drive away laughing.
But they don’t even do shit like that. Instead they are having massive mental breakdowns because people are annoyed at them for ruining their own lives…
Fuck me.
Who were losers growing up implies they arent still losers. I counter theyre much bigger losers.
It just implies they’ve finished growing.
They used to be losers, they still are. But they used to be, too.
We’re all suffering from billionaires. No further qualification is needed.
I really don’t like any of these billionaire arseholes, but this tweet is akin to saying “these people suffered a form of bullying/abuse/neglect growing up and are now incredibly wealthy”, but it adds a dollop of normative-popular-person judgement on top.
I mean fine, these aren’t good people, but do we really have to endorse and entrench the winners/losers mentality?
Not to defend billionaires but Lemmy is so weird, they’re always like “protect people on the spectrum! Accept neuro divergence!” But at the same time they’ll be like “that guy acts weird, what a loser!” I see it a lot around here, some celebrities who are autistic are fair game, some aren’t 🤷♂️
Jerry Seinfeld pops in my head. He’s autistic, when he was younger he liked women younger than him. Super common with autistic people who feel mentally younger so they like people who are more on their level, but he gets called a creep etc, despite not breaking any law.
Normal dudes like Johnny Depp are 60 and still chasing girls right out of high school and nobody cares
Wait, you really dont know the difference between a neurodivergent and psychopathic asshole with a god conplex??
the difference, is whether someone is punching up (ridiculing powerful billionaires) vs punching down/sideways (diverse and marginalized peeps). seems like pretty basic and consistent application of a worldview to me.
no comment on celebrities. i don’t give two flying fucks at rolling donut about celebrities.
People to whom justice isn’t more than an aesthetic. I’ve seen people also turn being gay, or feminine, or poor, or overweight into an insult to hurl at people after making a point of being an ally
Billionaires are oppressors and exploiters, killers of the planet and the people alike, not sure why those can’t be the insults we use and we have to resort to thing that reinforce these social hierarchies
To clarify i think Elon musk’s autism is irrelevant to why I despise him, same as the autism of Jeffrey Dahmer has no bearing on why I hate him too.
Once you cross a line you can’t defend it even with autism.
fElon said he has it. Never been diagnosed by a medical authority that I have seen and I have also seen a few articles saying that he never got tested.
There’s a difference between autistic and psychopathic.
Yeah there’s a line, like I said elsewhere, Dahmer was likely autistic but that’s not why we hate him. Call out these billionaires for stealing wages, impoverishing communities, buying politicians and being all around corrupt, but the whole “they’re weirdo losers who have no social skills” thing is a bit out of hand
Depp makes me shudder. He started dating Winona when she was 17 and he was mid 20s. Can’t fathom why he gets a pass
He did that a lot, last I read he was dating some 23 year old. He gets a pass after that trial cause he married someone crazier and more abusive than him, that trial proved Depp is also an abusive piece of shit and a psycho, those texts to Paul Bettany where Depp is asking him to help him rape and murder Amber Heard is wild. How did that alone not cancel him?
Dude also dates women barely out of their teens and then goes “why are the women i date crazy?” Maybe cause they’re young and you’re almost a senior, date women your age. Reminds me of the friend who is always saying “everyone I know causes drama” it’s you.
I felt that a lot of the Heard/Depp trial was red pill men happy to bury a woman and use her as an example of “women are the problem” thinking
Yep the manosphere was all over it. The judges verdict on the UK Depp Heard trial is really interesting, the judge is used to testing and reviewing evidence and found he was the abuser. And you’re right the rape texts alone should have ended him cos they’re awful.
"Even my hat has a hat 😀 "
Should we have been nicer to those losers in school? Is it our fault?
Not saying it’s the case with these people but you can definitely be a huge loser without people being mean to you.
My take as a loser in school: being treated like losers get treated in school leaves scars that are very hard to get rid off. It makes you driven beyond any reason. I would argue treating someone like shit because of circumstances beyond their control is not only creating quite capable assholes but also not better than treating someone worse because of the color of his skin. So maybe everybody who piles the upvotes onto this post: take a long look into the mirror and find some love and understanding for the people around you. Takes alot of reflection and therapy to see the damage and it usually does not help healing it completely.
As a former loser in school, I don’t believe any billionaires ever had the same experiences as you or me. People like Musk and Trump were raised in wealth, in an entirely different environment, and they have always had people who catered to them because of it. They have never been anywhere near as alone or helpless as the average bullied kid is.
They should’ve been given better mental health support as kids, as we all should have. However, as adults they have a lot more power to improve themselves than poor people do - I am dependent on work for health insurance, and can’t be guaranteed the company will even pay for a given therapy session (because of bullshit loopholes that other rich people designed.) These billionaires have all the resources anyone could ask for and they still choose not to improve themselves.
We are not the same.
I distinctly remember a story of elon being bullied. I also think elitist schools have an even worse bullying problem. As much as you might not believe it, billionaires are human. Dehumanizing someone to make it easier to feel good about hurting them is what the right do and is a trap we should not be falling into.
I have no doubt kids in such schools (I’m not calling them “elitist”) were bullies to each other.
But what about outside of school? You think house staff didn’t have to obey Elon when he was a boy? You think an entitled kid who’s bullied in one area isn’t going to exploit power given to them in other areas? Looking at how he manages things as an adult, I pity all the house staff and childcare staff that ever had to put up with him.
The rest of us never had that kind of power in any facet of our lives. There are layers of privilege that separate the experiences of Musk and the experiences of the 99%. It isn’t “dehumanizing someone” to point that out.
While I don’t necessarly agree with your opinion, I actually enjoy your perspective a lot. Thanks for that :)
Add to this that people like Musk are autistic and as awful as he is, it’s shitty that people make fun of his for being a weirdo or a loser.
Afaik elon likes to say he is autistic, but there is yet to surface any proof to that.
I hope I get to see one of them dragged through the streets during my lifetime.
