Since federal agents surged into L.A. last year, at least five people have been shot in the eye at protests, with lasting consequences.

    He Left Without an Eye

He actually left with an eye. The problem was that he went there with two of them.

Just to clarify the headline: he went to a No Kings protest to document the government’s response to the protest and was hit in the eye by an ICE projectile. This was state violence against a citizen, not protestors attacking a counter-protestor or agitator.

Yes well people are more familiar with the Bible than with a Babylonian stele. Allegedly.

I’ve seen it! The real thing. I also walked through the Ishtar gates! Then I took an arrow to the knee. Because the Hittites.

Welcome to naziland. Too bad martial law and full on boot-on-neck fascism will be the only response to France-inspired protest actions if executed clumsily.

Seriously, where were these ICEfucks even raised to think what they’re doing is even remotely okay? Surely the financial benefits of performing their atrocities can’t be good enough compensation…where are they finding the internal motivation to voluntarily be so evil and fundamentally antiamerican? USA must be really good at raising bullies.

Finding people willing to be fascist goons is never the bottleneck holding back fascism, so the answer is: The same place other fascists do.

French people get their saline vials (to try and rinse out CS gas) confiscated because the cops get away with it.

So do the cops. Guns, and drones, and APCs, and tanks, and bombs, and weapons of mass destruction, and no hesitation about using them on citizens. They also have Flock and Palantir, so forget about organizing to take them on.

It’s synecdoche, those two names a stand-in for the surveillance-state apparatus, which is much larger. But, by all means, start organizing the armed resistance.

Let me introduce you to 42 U.S. Code § 1983 - Civil action for deprivation of rights

Every person who, under color of any statute, ordinance, regulation, custom, or usage, of any State or Territory or the District of Columbia, subjects, or causes to be subjected, any citizen of the United States or other person within the jurisdiction thereof to the deprivation of any rights, privileges, or immunities secured by the Constitution and laws, shall be liable to the party injured in an action at law, suit in equity, or other proper proceeding for redress, except that in any action brought against a judicial officer for an act or omission taken in such officer’s judicial capacity, injunctive relief shall not be granted unless a declaratory decree was violated or declaratory relief was unavailable. For the purposes of this section, any Act of Congress applicable exclusively to the District of Columbia shall be considered to be a statute of the District of Columbia.

Seems pretty reasonable, it’s a law that was passed just after the civil war, meant to give recently freed slaves the ability to sue over the continued efforts of the southern racists to maintain white nationalism.

Sadly this article tells you the current state of the law.

Qualified Immunity is explicitly against §1983 as it was written and passed by Congress, not as illegally amended and copied into the Federal Register.
