The US government would likely consider such a measure as facilitating censorship," the submission said.

This is such an asinine stretch and holy moly I think this is one of the biggest admissions of big tech’s true intentions to date, not that we didn’t already know this.

The United States is so blatantly corrupt. Controlled by big tech. An algorithm off switch kills social media’s black box of manipulation and they know it.

I pray that Australia holds strong and enacts this. I cannot wait to see the data on mental health effects in those with algorithmic and non-algorithmic feeds.

I cannot wait for this. Genuinely going to add it in my calendar haha

The irony that the US wouldn’t allow Chinese-based social media algorithms to run in the US but they think they have any right to the social media policies put forward by another country. As always, Trump can go fuck himself in his cunt box.

Depends on how you look at it.

If it’s really all about enforcing US hegemony, then the two things line up perfectly.

Hegemony isn’t forced, it’s earned. It comes about via soft power, which is something the current administration doesn’t understand at all. Hence why the US has lost standing, respect and ultimately potential earnings over the last 10 years. They act like colonisers, with a power structure based on fear but that only works if you’re actually.good at war and have the tactical agility to change how you infiltrate an enemy, real or imagined to perpetuate the “fear culture” that the US mindset thrives on. Unfortunately for the US, they keep showing that it’s not and hence hegemony has been destroyed. The US empire has been quite pathetic in terms of longevity.

As always, Trump can go fuck himself in his cunt box.

I can’t tell if this is redundant or not (mostly intended as a joke, but I am curious now). Is “cunt” here an adjective? Does “box” mean vagina for Australians?

Can confirm that ‘box’ is indeed an Australian term for vagina

Yeah we sometimes double up in redundancy with these terms. Cunt box is acceptable Strine

Rare intervention? From the country that messes with everything and everyone all the time? About as rare as sand in Egypt.

I had a similar thought. So many coups, drug running, propping up rebels, both domestically and international. Nobody does intervention like US. They ask us how is our intervention so good. It’s true. The US doesn’t say it, but others admit it is good.

It put a number of questions to the Australian government, including how Australia would define “harm” and “risks”

USA proving they don’t even understand the law.

Yeah… That’s because we have far-right wing dipshits scaremongering all over facebook at the moment, and, they rely on the rage bait to generate attention.

Nobody would willingly subscribe to One nation bot farms, anti-vax wankers, or all the bullshit about how great petrol and coal is.

Which is hilarious because I’ve heard almost nothing but universal praise and “will we get it too?” from regular users…

I think I’ll take this as proof that it’s a structured and intentional attack against the proletariat, rather than just an unfortunate outcome of the “get everyone addicted” incentives of capitalism. Not to sound like a conspiracy theorist, but they want you stupid and controlled. They’ll fight anything that give you more agency or choice.

I’m reading Naomi Klein’s new book, “End Times Fascism: And the Fight for the Living World” and she agrees. It seems the Epstein class is hell bent on destroying the post WWII order and want to replace it with some sort of technocracy where the poors never have a chance to become rich and have no power to make their lives better through voting.

And they will use AI, surveillance and robots to keep us under their thumbs, so they can live their own fantasy utopian lives without ever having to deal with us personally.

not sure how enforcing chronological feed would constitute censorship, if anything the algorithm deciding what you see is more censored

They seem to think (or are being deliberately obtuse) that the feed would be altered to remove ‘harmful’ or ‘risky’ content - not that it would just revert to chronological.

They’re considering it censorship, as they think someone gets to pick and choose what is ‘harmful’ or ‘risky’ - where instead those where just used to describe the current situation as being harmful and risky.

Hot take, they’re in the process of doing it again. They don’t have the legal means to force the government out so the Epstein class is leveraging social media to brainwash people towards the far right instead (just like everywhere else).
