Also the personality and self-control of the person taking it. Like are they the type to say, “no thanks, I only do coke on special occasions” or the type to say “wow, that line felt amazing, I’d like to feel that way all the time!” Because that can throw out all former plans regarding quantity.

The addictiveness of a drug is actually a quantifiable metric. In the early 20th century, scientists exposed hundreds of drug naive individuals to different psychoactive compounds. Although there are individual differences, something like half of the people exposed to intravenous heroin and methamphetamine would actively seek out the next hit.

it feels so weird once you start looking at alcohol just as another drug, how many people have it as their drug of choice and that it is so normalized while most other drugs would be a taboo in most societies

or the drugs have to be perscribed by your doctor, only select few are licensed to pedal drugs and this is until it is not fitting the narative of some politican, then they will leave you strung out and marginalize you

the only reason alcohol isn’t banned is because it is trivial to make

nutrients humans need + certain life forms that rot things

      not able to be restricted

if banned, people would make their own crappy alcohol which would likely be more harmful

(I don’t support drug bans, war on drugs did not work, the government should just make getting rid of addiction easy by providing proper healthcare (Portugal does this I’ve heard))

Many naturally occurring drugs are as easy or easier to make, weed (dry + burn), coca (literally just chew the leaves), shrooms (grow + dry). But the argument holds for those as well. People literally produce their own (or buy from someone else who produced it illegally) stuff which might be contaminated, just because the government wont make it legally available.

i mean meth is pretty trivial to make, dmt is trivial to make, not to speak about mushrooms, weed, etc, maybe that’s why they are still around actually haha, not saying you are wrong but there is more to it, probably

I can buy everything I need to make alcohol in the baking aisle at any supermarket. It won’t be very good, but it would be booze.

Also caffeine - we let our kids take a stimulant drug just for fun, hidden in their food! No restrictions. It can kill you, sure. Very gruesome overdoses. But have fun! Have a Mt. Dew! Go crazy! It’s just a drug!

But all other drugs are bad.

This is kinda unironically me. I do occasionally drink, but the drawbacks of drinking are far worse than the drawbacks of weed, so I prefer weed!

Gawd I love drinking but I can’t do it anymore cuz very specific things (used to drink 10+ drinks every night for almost half a decade and tbh it was the best thing ever aside from the weight gain and the fact that if I kept going it would kill me) so now I’m just into some drugs I like.

It’s been ages since my last drink and I’m VERY lucky, I went from years of ultra heavy drinking to nothing cold turkey (in a controlled setting, no anti-seizure meds or benzos either) and no seizures, no withdrawals, no DTs. Just crazy bad sleep for a few weeks and then 6-8+ hours a night every night after about a month. Since I stopped drinking, I’ve lost almost 20% of my total weight, and I’m eating way more than I used to. Turns out it’s a sick diet cutting out 2,000+cal of booze every day, you can eat as much as you physically can and you’ll still lose weight even sitting around all day and working a sedentary job, never exercising.

I wish I liked THC more, but it depends on the day. Sometimes it’s nice! It’s just about time for my tri-annual heroic dose of X, though. It’s been more than a year and that’s unacceptable.

The late 90s/early 00s version was “I’m straightedge except for weed and shrooms. Those are natural.”

^Don’t come at me, I know alcohol and tobacco and cocaine are naturally occurring also.^

The older I get the fewer drugs I enjoy. Alcohol used to be my last choice, now it’s my default.
