It was that way even when the cybertruck came out. Early tesla users, maybe, but we knew he was a weirdo cunt who came from apartheid money even then.

You want an electric truck, get a rivian. You wanna drive a nazi flag, get any type of tesla.

Every cybertruck I see where I live has some company logo or wrap on it. It’s great advertising – it lets me know never to hire that company for anything.

The most hilarious one is for a company that does waterproofing. Like yes, I’m going to hire a waterproofing company that just spent $100K on a vehicle that can’t go through a car wash.

Bruce Willis, Steve Carrell, William Shatner, Nick Nolte Avril Lavigne, Eugene Levy , Omid Djalili.

OTH really was just some random animated movie that was stacked with huge talents doing voiceover.

A lot of animated movies have super star studded voiceovers. The pay is pretty good for these actors and they don’t have to spend hours on makeup and wardrobe. They show up in regular clothes, talk into a mic for a couple hours then go home and cash a fat check. Vastly easier than actual acting roles.

      • I must mention, the ps2 / pc game that came with this movie was very liminal and surreal, especially the house level at night. This is the best screenshot i found. It doesn’t feel like a real house, but a set. I can’t explain, i think you might have to play this youself.

Everyone gets lost talking about this thing. Purchasing and driving a poorly-engineered or aesthetically-questionable vehicle isn’t the primary problem. That’s not unique. There have always been shitty vehicles.

People who drive these gave $80,000 to empower the Nazis. The fact that they’re shitboxes just underscores that conspicuous consumption and the support and affiliation for and with Fascism are the entire point.

Owning a cybertruck is an indication the driver is a Nazi. It was always an indicator of very poor taste, but now it marks you as a Nazi. Don’t bother trying to change my mind. I know it, my cat knows it, the mould in that tupperware I keep putting off opening in the far reaches of my fridge knows it.

No excuses now, and no bumper stickers will dissuade me. It’s been long enough, sell the thing or start sieg heiling.

Very early on, I think there were some well-meaning people who were really excited about it. The idea of an all-electric truck was brand new, and the promise was huge. It unfortunately wasn’t until after many Cybertruck preorders had been secured that Elon plainly revealed his true colors, and then after it was delivered that people found out it was a piece of garbage

Idk, the first cyber trucks delivered nov 30 2023.

His takeover of Twitter was 2022, with plenty of bright red flags The “pedo guy” thing was 2019 All of his COVID violations were extremely public in 2020 and 2021

I think you’d have to be living under a rock to be completely unaware of what he was by the time preorders were locked in

It’s just a convenient loophole for fascists to pretend they’re not fascists.

“Oh no I gave them a fully refundable $100 to pre-order it, guess I’m locked into giving this seig heiling, election interfering, pedophilic elite illegal immigrant $100k.”

There’s a bunch of defenders in this very thread.

Ok, I agree that if musk’s objective in buying twitter was to amplify nazi voices, that confirms him as a nazi.

Do you have convincing proof that that was his objective? Convincing enough that some random guy buying a car who “doesn’t care about politics” would immediately believe he’s a nazi? I don’t think so.

He stated his aim was to remove barriers to free speech. People disagree over what speech should be protected as a matter of principle, so our hypothetical buyer may very well have thought that that was a good idea.

Though it’s worth noting that for all of his claims of supporting free speech broadly, he only ever acted in support of the freedom of certain kinds of speech

Top result for me searching “musk promotes far right accounts” from 2022 https://www.congress.gov/118/meeting/house/115561/documents/HHRG-118-IF16-20230328-SD035.pdf

The point is, this stuff is trivially easy to find

The point is, each additional step adds uncertainty:

                  1. Musk is highly likely to be a Nazi because
                  2. he very likely bought Twitter in order to promote Nazis, which we know because
                  3. after the acquisition, it’s very likely that his actions have been to promote Nazis, which we know because
                  4. after the acquisition, the accounts we know have been promoted are right and far-right

                  In reverse order:

                  1. What if there are other actions in support of left-wing views our analysis has missed? What if the motivation was a belief that left-wing views were generally not being suppressed as much as right-wing views? (An easy belief to acquire, because the far-right are more violent than the far-left, so more often fall foul of rules against promotion of violence)
                  2. What if these far-right groups are horrible, but not actually Nazis?
                  3. What if Musk bought Twitter for other reasons, even though the actual effect has been promoting far-right/Nazis?

Let me be very clear: it is abundantly obvious that Musk is a Nazi. I am not trying to convince you that he isn’t. I’m not trying to convince you that there was no reason to think he was a horrible shitstain in 2023; there absolutely was. But you and others in this thread are conflating convincing evidence with incontrovertible evidence. That’s just a failure of empathy; people are unconvinced by convincing evidence all the damn time.

Hard to sell them when the only potential buyer market is people you want to avoid at all cost or a used car place that will buy it for an insulting fraction of it’s value.

And buying a replacement in this economy? We can judge new buyers all day long, we can judge people with 200k salaries that keep them, but there’s lot of folks are stuck with a car that no one will buy; and maybe their situation isn’t so great either.mmaybe they got laid off, had to take a big salary cut to keep living, can’t afford a new car, and because they can charge the car for free at work they have extra moey for food.

Edit I kind of skimmed the part where you said cyber trucks owners are Nazis. By that I mean, I read it is as Tesla owners are Nazis. Yeah, anyone who bought a Tesla in the last 5 years is probably a piece of garbage human or is an unfortunate result of a failed education. Which also makes selling them for good price a whole lot harder. The bumper stickers are a bandaid people use to make them selves feel a tiny it better, and a little extra hope their tires won’t get slashed.

People bought into the marketing hype pre-2020, and it was pretty much the only viable full EV in North America due to the charge network. A lot of people got them with good intentions for the environment.

Most people take out loans to buy new cars. When you sell or scrap a car the loan doesn’t go away. If you have 30k left on a loan, scrap the car for 10k - you’ll be left with a 20k loan and no car.

Regardless of a car’s financial worth, having a functional car is worth a lot more.

What your asking people to do is about as financially crazy as if someone told you to sell your car for $500, spend a thousand into maintance, and then go to buy a new one the leftover cash. In other words - blow a sizable chunk of your own money because the owner of the car company is a shit person. Who does that help? Musk already got his money, reselling the car does jack shit to him and completely fucks over the seller.

And I say fuck that way of thinking.

It was largely the democratic side of people that pushed for green energy and to stop polluting with gas cars. People listened, found Teslas were a great EV option and now the same people are telling Tesla owners they are Nazis for owning one.

It’s getting stabbed in the back by the people you supported because some rich guy is a piece of shit.

And truthfully I don’t own a Tesla, its my trans sister that has to deal with harassment and people telling her “they can’t accept her as a woman because she’s own a Tesla”. Fuck them and their exclusive “inclusivity” club.

That’s fucked up. Being anti-Trans is far more unacceptable than being pro-Tesla.

I think an incorrect presumption made is that Tesla owners are always well off enough to replace them with sufficient motivation, rather than having seen it as an investment.

this is not an endorsement of Musk or of Tesla or of cybertruck drivers - but this is a Very Online take. My boss’ husband drives a cybertruck, he doesn’t know what tiktok is, he doesn’t know what a meme is nor does he understand them when he sees them (he asks who it’s a photo of), the only news he consumes is in regards to logistics and supply chain and a little bit of the stock market.

I imagine he has as much understanding of why people hate elon musk as to I do as to why people love Sidney Crosby and hate Alexander Ovechkin - two people I had never heard of or know nothing about before googling “hockey players people love and hate.”

I won’t even remember their names in 5 minutes. I imagine a fair amount of cybertruck owners are like that.

I don’t live in the US - very few people here are actual Nazis and cybertrucks aren’t road legal. But people are still buying model 3s and Ys.

I wouldn’t do that when the CEO has outed himself as a nazi but I’m also not so immature as to think everyone who’ll buy a product and ignore the shit the company owner does is a fucking nazi, because that’s insane.

It’s not a “Very Online” take, it’s a “paying any modicum of attention” take. Willful ignorance is not a valid excuse for anything, and if your boss truly thinks of Elon Musk (the richest man in the world who has bought elections and media platforms and every American’s social security number) the same way that you think of some random hockey player, then your boss is being willfully ignorant. It’s giving “i’M nOt pOLiTiCaL”, which we all know is just cowardese for “conservative”.

I think its very reasonable in America that one wouldn’t be exposed to specific anti-Musk language if one didn’t engage with social media or news.

I think this is a case of

I mean you’ll have to take my word for it I guess.

I volunteer for an organization that promotes fiction penned by women and minority communities, we have a guy on the board who used to be a software engineer in the 70s–90s before he retired, he doesn’t know the first thing about social media. Struggles to remember the name of Facebook which is the only one he’s used.

My father in law wrote software for both JPL and government oceanography equipment, and is a big fan of Musk’s SpaceX work and vehemently against his political stuff, saying “he needs to dump that political stuff and get back to work!” frequently.

In my experience, people are complicated and immune to a lot of online pigeonholing, no matter how insistent online voices (mine included) are about that - there is a break between online discourse and real life day to day humdrum quotidian lived experience

Probably, because they drive a cybertruck.

That seems really odd to me. Generally people do at least a bit of research about a vehicle purchase, especially that expensive. I’m not even referring to Musk shit, just vehicle buying in general. Anyone looking up anything about the cost/value of a cybertruck would pretty quickly get an abundance of info about it being a bad buy without getting into any of the Musk stuff.

I guess if your boss’ husband just has the money and liked the look/what it said it’d do, then fair enough. Just seems strange to knowingly buy a lemon.

Have you read or watched a review of the cybertruck? I have, it did not say it was shit.

In fact the main reason I watched was to see whether they addressed the elephant in the room of how it looks like a stretch dumpster. They did not.

The hard-line anti-cybertruck stuff is absolutely not universal, same as the anti-musk stuff.

Leaving all the downsides of the Cybertruck aside - the fact that it’s built by a fucking nazi, the fact that it can turn in to a death trap, the fact that the build quality is shit…

Who the fuck buys a hideous, hideous car like this…? Who suffers from such poor taste that they think a piece of junk that looks like it was designed by a five-year-old is something worth spending money on, let alone so much?

I don’t know, I think it looks cool.

Completely impractical, shitty car built by a Nazi that nobody should even consider buying. But in terms of looks alone I like it. I’d gladly drive one in, e.g. a video game (if the look wasn’t associated with Musk, unfortunately it’s tainted now), or watch a movie where it’s the weird vehicle the superhero uses.

Why would you build a car looking like that in the real world I have no idea, but it looks cool.

I hate the cybertruck, but I think it’s chassis modularity is really neat, they just cut a predefined line in the chassis, then drop in a replacement section, although I’m not sure if I should trust the glue they use to fuse them, even after seeing how it happens in JerryRigEverything’s video on it.

I’m not defending the Cybertruck, but I used to think the same thing about the Honda Insight. It looks much nicer now, but that was after a huge toning down of toddler design.

That may be true, but in case of the Cybertruck, I doubt that there is any lipstick you can put on that particular pig that can somehow turn it into something I would even remotely consider buying.

I mean, I’m European, I can’t buy the fricking thing anyway, but I am also rather glad that I’m spared from ever seeing it in the wild.

I’ve seen one many times driving to work, or home from family visits (on the same road) and I always make sure they see my finger flying out the window. The last time I saw them, they were having an argument, and I choose to believe they were arguing over something to the tune of:

“I HATE RIDING IN THIS THING, WE ALWAYS GET FLIPPED OFF”

“IDK WHAT TO TELL YOU, IT WAS A GREAT INVESTMENT”

Even if that’s not it, seeing people be miserable in a cybercuck makes me happy on the inside.

I heard a comedian a while back talking about how her husband gives people a thumbs down instead of flipping them off in road rage situations and it pisses people off so much more, so I’ve been doing that to cybertrucks. I love it.

yes but actually no. There’s a hidden pull cord under the bottom mat of the “map pocket” that you have to remove, along with whatever else you were storing in there at the time. That’s assuming the cord hasn’t fallen out of reach inside the door or otherwise become inaccessible during an accident, of course.

The owner’s manual section on “how to open the door if there’s no power” spans 4 pages (viewed on mobile) and has 3 diagrams to illustrate the steps.

(incidentally, opening the frunk with no power is a separate page with ten steps and begins, “To open the powered frunk when Cybertruck has no power, you need a power source that provides between 9V and 16.5V”… it’s like they’re trying to be shit.)

Or any vehicle with an internal combustion engine, because those burn way more often.

But their fires aren’t reported on as much because it doesn’t cause as much ragebait engagement.

It ain’t just ragebait, Lithium battery fires burn much hotter and are way harder to deal with. All it takes is one cell to be damaged to cause a chain reaction. We gotta have better types of batteries first, and we’re getting there. New batteries exist, they are cheaper, and safer but they are bulkier.

Pretty much all Chinese EVs use LFP batteries. You can hammer a nail into one and it’ll just stare at you like you’re some kind of dumbass.

Western made ones use NCA or NCM batteries because of range anxiety. But those ones are armored AF so good luck doing any significant damage to them. And I suspect they’ll also switch to LFP within the next decade or so anyway.
