I get what the comic is trying to portray, but from the time traveler’s perspective, having a palm-sized device that represents access to what is essentially the complete compiled knowledge of humanity is probably the best possible case scenario. What more could you possibly want to get, when newly arriving in the future?
Right, but he is for sure just watching Tik-Tok.
Nah, bro found porn and is blown away by the options.
Op said that.

See?
So compression of knowledge is lossy.
True, but it also represents access to the complete compilation of lies, half-truths, and general brainless slop of humanity. It’s like mushroom hunting; it’s not enough to find mushrooms - you also need the skill to notice the small details that differentiate which is edible and which is deadly. The time traveler is probably halfway to thinking birds aren’t real by the end of the comic - after all, the magic box of truths says so.
I wonder if they could immediately comprehend that or they would get stuck and incapable of using it for a while because of how inconceivable it was for their time.
Most would probably have trouble getting the hang of it without extensive instruction (I’m still not super comfortable with navigating a phone as a Gen X), but the fact that he’s technologically savvy enough to invent time travel shows he likely has the kind of mind that can adapt well to new things.
Considering they invented time travel, I think they’d be fine.
This is how I imagine every “could you imagine if we showed humans from [insert time period] our tech today?!?”
Like dude, they’re people too lol they’d learn quick enough and adapt to the same dumb habits we have
Even some animals can somewhat learn to use phones and they also get addicted to it. I’ve seen videos of chimps, birds and even dogs using phones/tablets
Idk my gran gran still has no idea how her phone works after like 5 years of using it daily lol
Ends the same with the traveler in the far future, surrounded by Morlocks who are also on phones.
It reminds me of that episode of Archer where he finds a Japanese guy abandoned on an island since WWII.
For the unaware, that guy is based off of several real people. Most famously Hiroo Onoda
