Companies are free to pump as much money into slop pipelines, and I am also free to ignore and block their shit wherever I can. In fact, this only gives me an incentive to support live venues and local performers.

Ok I’m gonna sound like a conservative. But holy shit the pronouns. No. The only pronoun AI gets is “it”. You don’t start calling these things he/her. Nope nope nope.

That’s a bit like saying a drawing of a fictional woman is also an it. But it’s not, it’s a representation of a woman so it’s a she.

Just because you don’t like ai doesn’t mean you get to change how language works. Weaponising language sounds like straight out of the transphobe playbook

The Mona Lisa is an it even though it depicts a historical person. It’s also a she. It hangs in the Louvre and her smile has captivated millions. Gender is a social construct and we can nudge society different directions. We can encourage people to maintain a distinction between real people and imitations.

The painting is an it but the subject in the painting is a she.

I think you’re going to get some funny looks if you called a female cartoon character or something an it. Which is what OP insisted we do

          Boy, what a rant.

pretending the AI voice, generated from the theft of labor value of countless artist, should be given the pronoun of a living person

I get your point, and it’s fair to be upset about AI companies pulling some shit, but that’s literally how language works and it’s a terribly inefficient and petty way to express your disapproval.

It’s also a bit weird to belittle someone so harshly for pointing out the parallels of transphobic language despite the logical argument, and then try to use gendered language to belittle a product by going out of your way to call it an it. Like it or not, that’s exactly what transphobes do.

    AI generated artist

    No

It’s not an artist, it’s a computer program. More to the point, it’s a distance measuring type database whose input was the hard work, sweat and tears from real human beings and whose output is a mix of that but lower quality

There is nothing new, nothing inspiring, nothing renewing, it’s just as if they took all historical songs and tusees them in a blender and still filtered out the best bits that were left.

There is no singer that can awe you with her extreme vocal range, there is nothing that can touch you on your heart. This is pure ones and zeroes at work, all directed by some asshole who used some mathematical algorithms to figure out what sounds should be combined to make as much money as possible.

That is the crux of it: real artists work hard and mostly starve whilst giving you something from the heart. Managers and record companies would then make money off that (and keep most of it anyway). Now it’s just the money makers and they can tune everything just to be the perfect money printer machine.

Over time, expect much, MUCH more of this and yes, real artists will likely mostly disappear because as always, a small group of people like us will protest this and reject it, but the big masses will just lap it up anyways

All genres are infested with AI generated slop. This is not a race thing or whatever he’s claiming. Did he forget that a couple of months ago the ai rock band Velvet Sundown with fake white dudes was all over the news. Or does it only matter to him when it affects black artists?

Not sure, but you didn’t use this moment to frame this as more people joining the fight. Instead it sounds petty. 🤷‍♂️

AI slop sucks. The more people thar realize that, the better. Humans are fallible, but I will take them realizing there’s a problem once they see it.

Not even close to the first Suno-generated “artist” to do well on streaming and this one was generated by a black woman so I’m not sure what it has to do with the industry being racist

Good example of someone who wasn’t paying attention to an issue until it affected them

First they came for AI country music, but I did not speak out because I was not a country fan

I think it was by rigid adherence to what producers/record companies were demanding. If I ever hear another snap-snap-clap backing, it will be too soon.

I did not speak out cause it all sounds the same?

There are many genres that have been mostly the same shit all over again for decades.
