They still have over 3 years before they need the military for their next coup attempt. I view this as a litmus text to see who will be loyal little generals and who they need to boot before then. I fully expect that by 28 they will have packed the Pentagon with loyalist.

This is clearly prep for enforcing “election integrity” during midterms in a year. In the meantime, they desperately want to provoke a state into defending itself so they have justification to engage.

Why would they need to stage a coup if they already control the entire government?

My prediction is this: 28 will appear to be a normal election with some republican candidate (probably Vance) and some democrat candidate. If Republicans win, I expect it to be business as usual just a “normal” election and the fascist can continue their march unimpeded. However, if a democrat wins, I expect them to go full tilt election fraud, declare martial law, and attempt to keep Trump in power until the “fraud” is contained or some similar bullshit.

Sounds about right… Assuming we have a fair election in the first place. Which is a pretty big assumption at this point.

What? Do you think a room full of generals won’t respect an alcoholic who rose to the rank of—checks notes—Major in the Minnesota National Guard?

I’m guessing at least 80% of that room quietly seethed the whole time.
