https://getindie.wiki/ will redirect you to proper non fandom wikis
Thank you
They hold the wiki data hostage under the guise of creative commons licence.
What’s that? You want to remove your game from our website? No.
You want to reference your official wiki on wiki.gg or someplace else? Na, we will remove that link and our SEO will always be on top of search results.I’ve seen the occasional post about Fandom sucking now, but I don’t know the back story. Anyone care to enlighten me?
It was created by Jimmy Wales, the founder of wikipedia, as a for-profit alternative to wikipedia. So it has all the enshittification typical of for profit services — adds everywhere, tracking, attempts to “outcompete” “competitors” instead or collaboration… etc.
What’s wrong with Fandom?
A lot, starting with violent commercialization and how unusable it is without ublock. And not in the “oh it’s a lot of ads” meaning, more the “some ads will literally hostile takeover your screen and the only way out is to close the tab” kind
how unusable it is without ublock
I know an easy answer to this problem that will also improve a lot of your other internet browsing experience.
I have literally very little idea of what the internet is like without ublock now, but every time I accidentally experience it, I have a violent negative reaction. It’s awful. It’s really the worst. Have you been to YouTube without it? Jesus Christ man. No thank you.
What else? I don’t go to Fandom often or anything, but when I do visit it doesn’t bother me that there’s all sorts of awful stuff I am not seeing.
Ditto. I used fandom yesterday for Terraria. Got my info in and out. No problem.
I haven’t raw dogged the internet in several years. Always running ublock. Of your website hits me with that “disable your ad blocker” shit then I just try another site.
Terraria now has an official wiki https://terraria.wiki.gg/
I honestly don’t know how people actually use any website nowadays without adblockers
“some ads will literally hostile takeover your screen and the only way out is to close the tab” kind
not to challenge the fact that fandom is awful but I’ve just browsed a few fandom pages without adblock and all I see is a somewhat obstructive banner ad at the top but nothing I haven’t seen before

Add: This is specifically about the history of the Minecraft wiki (and why there are two of them now). But it also contains the entire origin story for Fandom and why they have betrayed the public’s trust. And why any wiki still on Fandom is effectively unreadable.
IDK dude, sounds like there might be something there but I can’t watch a 34 minute video to absorb why this web site is bad. I tried to paste the transcript to Claude, but Claude is busy eating its own dick right now, so no help there. I’ll take your word for it that they’re fucking it all up for reasons of their own but I’m not completely convinced that the problem cannot be solved with an ad blocker.
If I have to use an ad blocker to make a site remotely usable (and you have to to make it usable), then I don’t even want to give them traffic.
I guess my question is, why would you be on the internet without an ad blocker at this point in the first place?
Not saying you’re wrong, it is just a weird position to even be in. Why?
Same thing that’s wrong with imgur and many other websites: It was made for a singular purpose, but over the years it was turned more and more into a commercialized social media platform.
If you open fandom now, about half the page is filled with links, images, popouts, side bar, bottom bar, sliding bars, unhidden elements, notifications, etc. trying to get you to join their “community”, and things like that. It’s automatically playing videos. They stopped letting people have custom looks for hosted wikis(all has to follow the fandom look so they can enforce their “community” nonsense). And that’s with adblock. Without it’s actually hard to find what is the real content, since there are about a dozen ads covering everything.
For me, a lot of content won’t open in the app - only works on Chrome.
