I mean, I suppose so. I can imagine a theoretical AI that isn’t trained on stolen work, isn’t insanely energy intensive, isn’t controlled by the ownership class, and doesn’t hallucinate wildly. But that’s so far away from what AI is in our current context, drawing that distinction feels like losing the forest for the trees, at this point in time.

Oh, absolutely. As my instructor put it, if you cause an arc flash and are killed instantly, you got off lucky. Because if you survive, your body will be severely damaged for the rest of your life.

Those trainings put the fear into you for good reason. I don’t fuck with high voltage at all, shit is way too scary for me.

And that arc flash’s temperature is several times hotter than the surface of the sun. It’s hot enough to instantly vaporize any surrounding metal, meaning that if you manage to survive being near an arc flash, there’s a chance that you’ll end up with tiny metal shards in your lungs, when they cool down after you breathe them in. Arc flashes are scary stuff.

  • Thanks! My therapist is great, but things are still kind of bumpy with my wife. She’s super supportive of me being non-binary, but she’s really uneasy about the trans part of it. So right now I’m in this awkward position of trying to figure out what exactly what my transition goals are, while agonizing over how much I might potentially alienate my wife (who is my best friend in the world) and my family, if what I want is “too far”.

  • Haven’t come out to any of them yet. They’re all pretty devout Catholics and live in a red state, and my brother has repeated some of the “the schools are teaching the kids to be trans” bullshit, so I don’t have high hopes for any of them being supportive. I think coming out would probably mean most, if not all, of them stop talking to me. They’re likely to be the last ones I ever come out to

Nope, you are correct! From the Wikipedia page, which cites the standards document:

    • Representations can be done in one of two formats – a basic format with a minimal number of separators or an extended formatwith separators added to enhance human readability. The standard notes that “The basic format should be avoided in plain text.” The separator used between date values (year, month, week, and day) is the hyphen, while the colon is used as the separator between time values (hours, minutes, and seconds). For example, the 6th day of the 1st month of the year 2009 may be written as “2009-01-06” in the extended format or as “20090106” in the basic format without ambiguity.
