The hinge gets you that smooth close action after slathering both sides

    Screws are going the wrong way, aren’t they? You want the heads to be flush with the hinge and protrude into the material or else they’ll just fall off.

      True. You have a good eye for construction accuracy. But I guess the photo wouldn’t have been as visually effective & humorous if the hinge had been assembled correctly and we couldn’t see the screws in the bread.
