Skimmed the article and it seems it’s unclear at this time whether there was a mechanical failure of some kind in the vehicle or if the woman is at fault. Her kid was playing on the field and her two other kids were in the vehicle with her. It was parked for most of the event so this isn’t a case of a crazy drunk driver crashing off the road into pedestrians. Still possible she was under the influence, pending toxicology reports. Still insane that we as a society let multi-ton vehicles exist in such close proximity to pedestrians at all, since things like this can happen.

There’s still some responsibility on the driver to ensure their vehicle is not faulty or malfunctioning before driving it…

Yeah in that case it’s the manufacturers fault. Some things would show up with obd2 though.

kinda… but even if you would make maintenance as easy as possible, most people wont be able to get readouts or properly interpret them from the “modern” components.

if you look at a wire or a fuse, you can see it is broken, if you just look at an ic you more often than not can not

Thats why I say if you cant ENTIRELY understand a thing why should society allow yoy to he in possession of it ?

Like ther are numerous cases of police officers forgetting the law and arresting someone for a law that either no longer eixsts or that they interpreted wrong…would this happen if all of them were forced to be trained as lawyers before ever becoming an officer? WHy do we even need oofficers at this point if so many of them barely know our communities and our laws? We cant police ourselves and out communities bbetter?

Also if a person cant determine exactly what is wrong with a speeding metal death trap , the car, and what needs to be done to fix it before that car can ever be driven again why do we allow them to just drive them around at their own will as they do today? Isnt this just asking for trouble.
