Perhaps you have one of the top level commenters blocked, or maybe your instance blocks comments below a certain vote threshold. One thread has at least 50-60 comments in it and the top comment in the chain sits at -41 currently from what I see.
Recently I blocked like ten troll accounts and it has been hiding about 1/3 of the comments from me, leaving only the fairly nice ones. It does tell me the comments exist, though, so that might not be what you are seeing.
This post is marked as having 98 comments, but I can only see about 30. Is this normal?
