Seriously great movie. I saw it this weekend and now have been telling all my friends to watch it so I have people to discuss it with. The problem is that since it’s a horror movie, a lot of people I’ve told are just hard passing.

They’re missing out. It’s scary, but it’s also a legit good movie. The scariness in the movie isn’t really like that from cheap jump scares like most movies, but just from this weird sense of something being very, very wrong.

You need new friends! Find a one wish willow and wish that all your friends loved horror movies more than anything in the world. That won’t backfire.

It’s another case where there’s no joke to get except “recognize this pop culture reference???!?”

I think it’s a screenshot from the movie Obsession. Spoilers ahead but I’ll be as vague as possible:

Obsession plot summary and scene that I think the screenshot is from

A guy just can’t find the courage to tell his crush he’s into her. He gets his hands on an artifact that grants him exactly one wish so he wishes that she’ll love him more than anyone else in the world. True to the “careful what you wish for” trope, she becomes utterly obsessed with him.

This screenshot might be from a scene where he leaves the apartment and she just stands there and stares at the door until he comes home. She doesn’t move a muscle apart from eventually losing control of her bladder.

I actually had to turn it off halfway through and then revisit it the next day in the daylight. My wife asked “are you scared?” and I was like “not really scared, just deeply unsettled.”

Yeah, it’s really not scary at all, the premise is just so silly. But the execution is so morbid and handled with such attention to detail as to drive it home anyway.

        Spoiler

The way Bear ends up dying in what is basically a reenactment of the way his cat dies at the beginning of the film, with him taking the cat’s place, and Nikki taking his place… Jesus. What even do I do with this? I guess the magic behind the One Wish Willow is omnipotent, or otherwise able to tap into Bear’s private memories to torture him to his last breath? Anyway, what the fuck… Gotta hand it to whoever came up with all that.

Was i the only one who thought the movie was gonna end by both of them getting trapped and then they would remain eternally tortured souls trapped inside the bodies controlled by some stupid wish supernatural thingy.

I like the way it ended, especially when viewing it as a fable about controlling behaviour and “nice guys” since he gets just up and leave (in a way) leaving her behind to deal with the aftermath and the trauma for the rest of her life.

I like that the movie criticised the niceguy type. Or rather the whole dating scene. The whole thing started cause his “friend” didnt tell him they were casually fucking and then while the wish wasnt something he couldve expected to work, he then repeatedly fell back into a horrible relationship with her and even while knowing kinda soft-raped her. He also dragged the goth girl through a bunch of shit and caused her(absolutely fucking horrible but narratively beautiful) death. He then did kinda save the main girl but left her with all the trauma and shit as you said. Still, id say the highlight of the movie is easily the goth girl getting murdered. I never want to get close to that scene ever again cause its just so narratively, emotionally and also visually disgusting. Its the only time that i hated a jumpscare not because its unneccesary but because i got disgusted from it. Color me impressed by obsession.

I get what you’re saying but it wasn’t soft-rape: it was just rape, he didn’t know it at the time and when he discovered he just didn’t care about it

I cannot find a word to describe how much I despise that character

I mean at first it was soft-rape, at the very beginning he didnt know it wasmt her and it was sorta just weird sex where as a grown adult you should say im not gonna take part in this because im not sure youre in a state to consent. After he finds out its just straight fucking rape.
