People are keyed up and do not have emotional regulation skills. This is a failure of society.

We make fun of them for their “fake” emotional support animals, their public panic attacks and for their attempts at discreet electronic emotional support. This is also a failure of society.

That guy trying to make it through his fight is not the reason the earth or humans are doomed.

There’s nothing more human than treating a symptom in counterproductive ways while avoiding the real cause with ridiculous levels of mental gymnastics, because it obviously cannot be that one thing. If it was then we’d have to actually do something about it, which we clearly don’t need to!

I’m married to an autistic man that is incapable of providing emotional support of any kind. I’m one of those people that really needs it. Even I wouldn’t resort to this. This is delusion.

I hope you have a great support group that can be there for you! You deserve it!

My granddaughter has been diagnosed with autism and we’re all learning what it means to be a parent and grandparent. You’re right it’s not the same and some things we just need to learn to live with. And she’s wonderful, delightful, and I smile every time I see her.

Yeah, but like, I kind of feel that way about prostitution (like I am not going to enjoy myself with someone who’s being paid to pretend they’re enjoying it) but also, I know a few sex workers who’ve told me how much of their job is just companionship and listening, holding while people cry, etc. So it’s clearly an outlet for some people. We really need to attack the disconnection and loneliness at the root of this, not the symptoms manifested by those suffering.

Most of people here are fine with this person continuing with it because empathy is fucking dead here. Idk how lemmy became more soulless than reddit.

And that’s exactly the point. We’re so fatigued from the state of the world and separated through the anonymity of the internet that we really have lost the ability to empathize.

Our first reaction is anger or ridicule. Not concern or compassion

Some people can’t be saved, some actually are deluded enough to prefer it.

How? How do you reach them? What’s the method? Generally?

If there’s a way, sure, but once you get into thought terminating stuff its really hard, whole point is anchoring/ratcheting bad changes, and this tech is good for ending thoughts.

Well in the case of this post you lean forward and strike up a conversation with the guy instead of posting about him online.

Oh shit, I never thought of that. I haven’t tried using intimacy, haven’t tried using sex, haven’t tried usingaterial benefit, haven’t tried using narratives and religious delusion, haven’t tried dosing them with LSD, haven’t tried using light violence. Haven’t tried most combinations of those.

It’s just that I’ve tried nothing and I’m all out of ideas, thanks for understanding.

I think most of those are inappropriate to try doing on a plane, so probably for the best you haven’t tried them.

Intimacy and sex with strangers is generally frowned upon, material benefit (I’m guessing that’s what you meant) doesn’t really form a connection, religion is a tough sell if you’re not trained for it and not all religions are great, violence would likely create some animosity.

Talking to someone though can build connection and trust, which makes it easier to help someone find a better path. I do find taking LSD myself helps me become acquainted with new people, so if you’re like me maybe take a trip in search of sad, lonely people to talk to?

Narcissists are the exception sometimes. They are extremely reluctant to admit fault and they can’t heal until they do. I think over 90% them never get better. For Trump, he’s too old, evil and demented to be redeemed now.

See I’m generally opposed to human torture or death, but I falter in that belief when it comes to figures like these. After all only people have human rights
