    If you can, I’d suggest switching to a credit card and just pay it off every month. The general lack of consumer protection on debit cards is frightening. So many companies put minimum effort in protecting your data.

      This is how me, the murican, thinks also. but my euro wife thinks it’s bonker to even keep a personal credit card and that having any amount of debt is like the worst position you can be in. ¯(ツ)/¯

        Pretty much the same, renting a car while on vacation would be the only scenario I could think of that a credit card would be useful. And yes I live in EU

        Having a credit card is even considered a liability when applying for mortgage here

          Perhaps its different there, Europe has far better general consumer protection policies. But in the US, generally, if someone gets your debit card info, they can drain your account and the bank won’t do anything. The money is gone.
