I understand the lack of desire to create a ready made ID database for Palantir but y’all need to look at yourselves and get with 2026

Nah, the google monopolists can fuck off right into their own dumpster fire shitholes. I won’t use any app that requires their privacy infringements. Freedom is the only way.

The notification doesn’t say development is ending, just that the app will stop working on phones ruining Google’s rootkit

That’s fair, but it’s asking a little much of users to start direct dowloading apks or whatever to get their leftist shitposting app and if I wanted to try that hard for anything but an adblocker it wouldn’t be an Android in the first place.

you don’t need to be manually downloading apks. get a proper app store, like f-droid, and install jerboa that way.

I don’t get it though. uploading apps to the play store has already required devs to prove their identity for quite a long time.

The difference is, they want to remove side loading.

That means all apps need to go through play store. No more f-droid on certified android devices. You need to be on play store, or your app is not installable.

OK you’re allowed to just not do that.

The rest of us who are willing to put some effort in will likely not notice your absence.

Jerboa was my first lemmy app, which had it’s quirks I think. Then I switched to Infinity, and finally Voyager. Voyager is the best app I’ve used.

For ppl who use the browser and do not like apps, try your instances ui sub domains (if they have any), on Lemmy world do we have multiple, the one I like is https://photon.lemmy.world/

otherwise: I am using the app Voyager if reading on my phone which has been good to me but it is pretty much a wrapped PWA app

I would use phtn.app because it lets you log into any instance, and it’s also up-to-date. The lemmy.world version is over a year old

I have Connect, and Voyager as a backup. I prefer Connect. It sounds like a few people here dig Summit; is it better than Connect, and if so, how?

I’ve tried almost all of them, Connect had the nicer feel and I was able to customize it similar to BaconReader. The dev is quick to respond and push fixes too.

Jerboa the app had a pop-up not too long ago basically saying the end was near.

You mean that Google is restricting sideloading?

That has nothing to do with the Development of Jerboa. They can just as much develop an app according to Androids standard as they could before. The only change is that phones running googles rootkit won’t be able to install it.

Ditto. Imo it’s the most similar to RIF out of all the Lemmy apps, and just like RIF, I’ll use it until it stops working entirely

What kinda phone do you have? Other comments suggest it’s for Google rootkit, and so I wonder if the message went out to folks who aren’t using an Android phone.

I am also so far from a developer so I have no idea.

Where are you getting that jerboa is ending support? There’s nothing of the sort on github or on /c/jerboa. I’ve no doubt they’re not gonna register a google developer account, but that"s really got nothing to do with development of the app.

No, I saw that one. It says nothing about jerboa ending support, just that you won’t be able to run it on “certified” devices. I.E. I’ll have to go through the “allow uncertified apps” nonsense, and install it from somewhere other than Google Play. Presumably it’s available on F-Droid.

There are a few of us!!
Best UI by far imho (and a few smol features that benefit my daily use others don’t offer or requires more clicks).

We didn’t get the normal installing (“side-loading” & displeasing the oligarchy) pop-up but it still affects us.
