csrrying 2 phones is the way to go imho. One for these stupid apps and the other for your personal data. So its like the work / personal phone setup but instead we have private / non -private phone.

Dunno why I never considered that. A VPN over wifi on one, for banking and whatever… and then my phone. Hell, I used to carry an MP3 player, flip phone, and a camera if the time called for it. Making me feel like I lost my way lol, appreciate the succinct tip

Edit: smacking my head cause I literally have to carry two phones at work, as is. Why tf have I never considered this as an option for myself, even when I knew it was optional? Damn man, gonna grab me a phone for personal use and put this one to (for) work. Thanks again my friend

Well all that would be great, but we all know none of that will happen. We can (and should) just stop buying Sony items however as they are not doing so great on that front already. This is the issue when brands do stupid shit, no one seems to want to just stop buying.

Waaay ahead of ya there, buddy. I’ve been deliberately boycotting Sony since at least the rootkit in 2005, and I think the newest Sony product I actually bought was a Walkman cassette player.

Trouble is, Sony somehow still went right on existing as a huge multinational corporation for the last 20 years anyway. It’s almost as if boycotts aren’t enough and we actually need consumer protection law. 🤔

I’ma have to re-remember a facet of my life where “I’ll make do” was a thing. I mean, it still very much so is… but fuck, I could be “making do” even more if I tried just a little. I don’t wanna, because comfortability and all that, but I’ve done more with less in my past. I’m tired, but I guess it is what it is for the time being. Really wish I didn’t have to because of greedy evil, but fuck 'em… good luck in your bunker, I’ll smile at the sun instead

Because the person who makes it gets touchy on some things and started drama with someone or doxxed them or whatever type deal. It’s not like you can’t talk about it you just can’t use the word because he was going through and being weird about conversations about it. It’s nothing against him or them it’s just one of those developers being a unique type of person - which makes sense in the hyper privacy space.

Pretty sure that is it. A lotta people in response to seeing him decry certain technologies tend to say, “that uncompromising nature on privacy is why GrapheneOS holds up so well.” Which I gotta be real when I say that it really does make me feel more comfortable with GrapheneOS’ development. I can’t keep up with all news on it, I’m not wanting to completely audit all the source code, but having a development team led by someone like that does bring a sense of ease toward my phone.

I’ve pretty much gone back to my 2000s era mindset of “I don’t need a smart phone when I have PCs in front of me at work and at home.”

But really it’s more like I already have an old smart phone but hate using it and never want to have to upgrade. We’ll see what Motorola can make happen.

Sony makes some of the best full frame cameras on the market. Granted it’ll cost you like $6k but Sony still makes some really good tech. I do not own a Sony products btw. In regards to cameras, I’m using Fujifilm, but they aren’t even close to Sony tech wise.

I thought so too but recently I actually met a professional photographer who works in marketing, and he told me that Sony cameras produced terrible colours across the board and recommended I go with Canon instead.

I’ve got no experience with either brands so no idea, my go-to was always Nikon.

Nikon’s camera sensors come from Sony. But Nikon engineers always do some magic. That’s why NASA uses Nikon cameras in space. Canon is arguably the best, but also the most expensive and not friendly to third party lenses. Sony lets you put any lens you want if you got the right adaptor. And that photographer you met isn’t wrong, but that is exactly why professionals have to edit their photos after a shoot. With Fujifilm I try to do it all in camera cuz editing hundreds of photos becomes exhausting after years.

Nikon’s camera sensors come from Sony.

Really? Huh, always thought they made their sensors in-house.

Looked it up and apparently they did at some point, but seemingly only in their professional cameras (D2h, D3, D4). But Sony isn’t their only supplier when it comes to sensors apparently.

I honestly don’t think I would spot the issue he was talking about without comparing photos side-to-side; I’d probably be perfectly happy with a Sony alpha or something, but somehow I’m skewing more towards getting a Canon now.

There’s A LOT more things to weigh and compare than simply a brand. Canon, Sony, or Nikon, all their latest flagships will make anyone happy. It all comes down to what you want and what you need out of it. I don’t need video features or fast action sports, others do. Personally, I’d use any of those 3, but if all you care about is top of the class, then get a Canon. It will be the priciest option, there’s a reason most professional use it.

The last console I bought was a PS3. I only bought it because it was one of the cheapest bluray players at the time. The games were way too expensive. Now I only play PC games and I wait a few years and buy them when they are on sale and have hopefully had all of the major bugs fixed.

Big budget exclusives sure, plenty of good games to play every year, and many “old” games get updates every year keeping them fresh, you would only buy expansions back then, while a 6/10 game 5 years after release can become a 8-9/10

Your comment does apply to Sony exclusives tho

So, you know they discovered a material named graphene by pulling tape over graphite? Well some very evil people took that name to disguise a virus which takes over the phones of our customers and doesn’t let the use our operating system.
