The take seems to be along the lines of “only a revolution will fix this”, and then they don’t do a revolution. So while we wait to get that pie in the sky by and by, I’ll keep on going for a improvement.

Yeah. Republicans held enough power to obstruct the government like they do, and you fell for them blaming Dems like you do.

People have to actually vote blue first.

Democrats won the Presidency and both houses in 2020. So obviously people did vote blue.

Your response is to then say that doesn’t matter, and we can’t blame the poor Dems for that.

Unless your point is to state there’s no point to voting for the Democrats, but you think they mean well, you’re contradicting yourself.

So you’re gonna pretend the republican party isn’t actively obstructive to the point the only way the Democratic party platform passes legislation is with a supermajority while asking why they weren’t able to do something they didn’t have the numbers to do in the first place. Bad faith or ignorance, your argument is built on a false premise.

Hey my little 7th grade civics students, how many votes would removing the filibuster require?

the only way the Democratic party platform passes legislation is with a supermajority

So again, your argument is that voting for Democrats is a waste of time? Because that’s what you keep saying here.

How much of a mandate was blue given in 2020-22? 50+1 in the senate, when 50 republicans opposed green energy and corporate reform, and 1 dem opposed green energy, and 1 dem opposed corporate reform?

Imagine if there were just 1 or 2 more blue senators. Elections matter.

If your claim that that electing the Democrats did nothing, I don’t disagree with you.

Imagine if there were just 1 or 2 more blue senators.

I don’t have to imagine it - we saw it in 2008. We also saw the same results from the Democrats then, with the same rotating villain play to pretend they had no power. Only difference was it was Lieberman instead of Manchin.

Honestly it baffles me how all these discussions spiral to focus only on major elections. If you want the system to change, don’t wait until you have only the option to vote between lesser and greater evil ffs. You need to work from the roots up if there’s to be any change - and the must be done if you want a revolution too! And yet here we are, tons of accounts just whining how you shouldn’t vote for evil. No shit, but whatcha gonna do about it, other than let the child raping genocider take over? Encourage people to take action on their local level, don’t cry and fight and make even more people disengage with your country’s politics

I’m inclined to think there’s way too many morons on lemmy since not all of these can be bots or russian shills, can they?! And I’m not usaian so this is 100% just an outsider observations through discussions here. I even actively try to avoid reading these but there’s just too many

I’m increasingly of the opinion that we’re contending with only a few trolls, and A LOT of plants, shills, and bots on that front. Or at least troll-ish people informed by the latter. Point being: to me the sabre-rattling crowd seems heavily astro-turfed to me.

Like 2/3rds of Lemmy is unabashed Russian agitprop. The tell is when they blame democrats for things republicans do while deliberately misunderstanding how the federal government works.

You have way too much faith in

            1. the average American civics education
            2. the ability of the broke-ass FSB to accomplish anything
            3. the size and notoriety of these tiny little lemmy communities.

It might be time for you to take an internet break .

Check your reading comprehension. I didn’t say bots, I said Lemmy uncritically repeats Russian agitprop. This aligns absolutely with my reckoning of the average American civics education, and Russia’s online information warfare is rivaled maybe only by Israel or China. Russian information warfare literally got Trump elected the first time, like what the fuck are you on?

They want a collection of people that don’t want to die in a stupid civil war to die on the front lines of a civil war. They don’t want it to be optional.

If they could, they’d be the blocking detachment shooting deserters, screaming “shitlib” as they blow people’s brains out of their skulls.

Less worse is better than worst possible.

There’s gradients to nearly all parts of life.

“I stepped in shit.” vs “I fell face first in shit.” One is clearly worse than the other.

He did all the same shit

Yeah, 100%! Although, if you don’t mind, could you remind me:

        • How many times was Biden mentioned in the Epstein files?
        • How many crimes or felonies has Biden been convicted for?
        • How many people, including children, reported Biden for raping them?
        • How much money has Biden and Biden’s family take under the table?
        • Which fundamental rules of democracy has Biden broken?
        • How many countries has Biden invaded?
        • How many times has Biden rolled out the red carpet for Putin?
        • What were the levels of Biden’s tariffs and how much did they destabilise the global economy?
        • How many globally strategic trade routes have been blocked due to Biden’s egomania?
        • How many US citizens have been killed for no reason at all by Biden’s Sturmabteilung?

        He was.

Obviously he wasn’t good enough to dismantle the trump power network, imprison him, kill him with the secret murder police we definitely don’t have, or prevent him from running for office (section 3 of the 14th amendment).

But doing and standing for nothing was better than what’s going on right now.

In the same way walking into the torture chamber with pliers is better than pulling your fingernails out.

If he did nothing then he’d be better.

Actively committing genocide is still actively committing genocide. Using all of Trump’s built concentration camps is still just as bad as being the one building them.

He was more secretive and more discreet than Trump. That is how he was better. But Trump has done not a single thing the last 3 presidents have not also done.
