Speaking as an American, from my understanding, it’s supposed to be a lighthearted tease. No one’s being seriously malicious about a Southern English accent on this side of the pond.

That said, having coached friends in the UK on American accents before for theater and voice acting and other things, I do have a legitimate question. Understand, I hope this is of no offense to you. But why is it the only two accents most Brits can do are Texan and Boston?

      Speaking as an American

Did you hear my eyes roll when I read that?

      Southern English accent

What the fucks a ‘Southern English accent’? Accents change every 20km over here.

why is it the only two accents most Brits can do are Texan and Boston?

George W. Bush and Family Guy.

Speaking as a Scot, I just say anything ridiculous with conviction and it sounds American.

As per my original comment, Every accusation is a confession; therefore Americans can only do Boston and Texan accents.
