IMO there are two kinds of people:

People who have made a racist joke

    and people who weren’t joking.

Not gonna lie and say that I’ve never made a racist joke, but these days not anymore. Too many right wingers who think you’re serious.

Protip, if you have an offensive joke, it’s best to make it private. Any sexist/racist jokes I have ever made were all in the company of the people who know me well enough to understand I’m making fun of existing stereotypes or actual assholes.

This is gonna be controversial but to give this another perspective…

A long time ago me and my buddy role-played racist police in gta (not against other real people though) we are generally into really dark humor, the more evil and horrible the joke the bigger the contrast with how we actually are on the inside and we laugh at the absurdity of that which makes the experience funny while the joke itself never is.

But context is everything, we are about as anti racist as it gets irl, roleplaying the absurdity of racist police it is a way to process that this fucked up thing happens in our reality.

It affirms what we already know, racist behaviour is not just wrong but also incredibly stupid and there is no reasonable explanation on why a person would be like that besides some irrational and dangerous mental illness.

This is what most right wingers don’t seem to understand. Know your audience. If I make a shocking or offensive joke I know exactly who’s going to hear it, and I’m pretty sure how they will react.

Oh, they understand. They want to sit behind the safe wall of societal expectations that you won’t beat their face in, and make the jokes because they want to spread their hate and for you to be shocked, not for you to laugh at something stupid and absurd. That’s the real difference. If I tell a joke that touches on something like race or religion, it’s because the absurdity of it is funny. When they tell them, they believe the joke and the ‘reality’ of it is why it’s funny.

Always good to have standards. Any guy that makes racist jokes really. Even if you are racist too, one should remember that if he’s making racist jokes he’s likely a misogynist as well and looks down on you.

Suggest trying not to worry about what race you think people are in the first place. Isn’t that the root of racism?
