The one time I ever managed to finish a game of Sins of a Solar Empire (ADHD and epic-length 4X campaigns don’t mix well), I stopped when the last opponent was down to their homeworld and, using the material output of the entire rest of the galaxy, built up my fleet until hitting the unit hard cap before making the final push.
I can only imagine the enemy’s reaction to nearly a thousand spaceships making a synchronized jump into their system when most space battles comprise barely a hundredth of that number.
It can be cathartic to run a victory lap.
