    Bernie wasn’t a third party.

… Bernie didn’t get 2% of the vote in the general election.

Would you like to recite, for the class, the top 4 parties and their percentages in 2016?

and the Democrats did all they could to torpedo him, like they do with all the candidates,

“They did all they could to torpedo him”

Yes, they forced millions of Democrats not to vote for him in 2016

they betrayed you and yet you think voting for them is the solution.

You insist that the electorate is in total agreement with you because you despise the idea that democracy might be a process that functions without your approval.

given that this is the second time Democrats lost to the most unpopular candidates in American history, it seems like most Democrat voters agree with me

“Democrats lost to a far-right candidate” isn’t the win for the “The electorate is secretly left-wing” argument that you think it is.

it means the electorate can’t stand thre Democratic establishment. and they must change. rather than their main campaign being “we aren’t that guy”

I don’t disagree with that core point.

Just… remember that voters in this country remain very right-wing. Even Dem voters. The DNC is shit, but it’s not just them manipulating all the pliant little puppets. Gods know they aren’t that competent. It’s that there are 325 million people in this country and only a small percentage of them even think about politics on the level of… probably anyone here. On the level of, that’s not even getting into agreement or disagreement.

For most people, politics is a marginal concern. It shouldn’t be, but it is. And right-wing media has made American social services - even vital ones - invisible. The old “Don’t let government into my Medicare!” line comes to mind.

The DNC is fucked. But the reason we keep getting shit candidates is because voters keep voting for shit candidates in the primaries, when we do have a broader selection.
