Lincoln had said that he had no plans to abolish slavery. Douglas decided it was better to support the eventual winner and have a seat at the table than make a futile gesture.

I voted for Williamson in those primaries even though I knew she had zero chance of beating the at the time, current sitting president. I also voted for Harris in the generals because I’m not an idiot.
