But if the furnace isn’t constructed at mount doom, then it wouldn’t be able to withstand the magical flames required to destroy the ring.

For the same reason Eru Ilúvatar didn’t simply strike Sauron or even Morgoth for that matter with lightning and solve everyone’s problems from the outset, I guess?

          Right.
My point was simply that Mount Doom not necessarily the only place that can provide what is required.
There might be others that are jus not yet discovered.

The whole point of the story is that it is, though. It’s plainly stated, and the entire plot of all 3 books depends on it.

the missile doesnt need to survive mount doom, it just needs to survive long enough to accurately and precisely deliver the ring into mount doom. however that does not mean that saurons tower wouldn’t be susceptible to a missile attack. and honestly missiles are the dumbest way to deliver explosives. you could imitate asynchronous drone warfare using giant eagles. explosives are known even to orcs so it shouldn’t be difficult for them to figure some fun shit out.

                1. We weren’t talking about the missile anymore, we were talking about a furnace outside of mordor.

                2. I talked about the accuracy and precision in another comment chain, as well as a preemptive strike on sauron’s tower.

                3. Missiles can actually be highly accurate with the right technology, albeit at a significantly increased cost.

                4. The eagles are majestic beings who serve at their own will due to their friendship with Gandalf. You’re not using them as kamikaze drones.

                5. The orcs don’t know how to use explosives. Saruman does, and they were so unheard of at the time that he had stop Wormtongue from holding a candle over a pot of black powder to get a better look. Saruman, the wisest of the five wizards and head of their order, made the explosives and showed the Uruk-Hai how to use them.
