I have posted about the L119/M119 before, but I will again because it is curiously largely ignored by the international community as a critical force multiplier in the Ukrainian military. Howitzers will be the bread and butter of ground armies long into the future no matter what armchair generals say about drones, missiles etc…

The reason the L119/M119 is so important is it outclasses almost all other light infantry support howitzers by being extremely light, having an obscured muzzle flash unlike most Russian artillery D-30 included, and being capable of an absurd sustained rate of fire while remaining ridiculously accurate even after heavy barrel usage.

The UK has been looking to develop its next generation of 105mm artillery in conjunction with Ukraine and given the testing of the soft recoil Hawkeye 105mm artillery system in Ukraine this is a VERY important area to watch. An evolution of the L119/M119 utilizing soft recoil technology would be a revolutionary leap forward for an already class leading artillery technology and we would see the gun begin being strapped on all sorts of light equipment that previously couldn’t in a million years mount a 105mm howitzer.

Even if it just ends up being a localized L119/M119, Russia should be afraid, these are the best light howitzers on earth…
