At what levels of irony poisoning are you operating to view any reminder of the injustice as “porn” lmao

“<subject> porn” has become shorthand for gratuitous objectification in order to cheaply moralise and has been for a while (eg “inspiration porn”).

They’re being a monumental arsehole about it, but they do have a point - this comic isn’t trying to change the system, or even point it out - it’s a cheap shot designed to make you feel satisfied in recogbising how screwed up things are.

A comic that would have been very different with the exact same images but a “remember that your child’s Christmas joy may come from exploited children elsewhere” and a suggestion to shop local, or even linking to ethical shopping guides and apps, international groups advocating worker and / or children’s rights would do a thousandfold more than the comic as it stands. Which like the subject matter it claims to decry is cheap, nasty and exploitative.

Basically: this comic as it stands is doing the exact same thing it’s “condemning”. Using exploited children as fodder to serve.

I’m not sure how you got that and how is this satisfying to anyone, its clearly pointing it out how the system is fucked up.

And a bunch of action links under the comic would be nice, though I’m sure after looking at it you remembered on your own you’ve yet to donate/phone a congressmen/send some anthrax this season. Takes all kinds 🌠

It’s so cute when people like you show their verbal clumsiness within one single sentence.

Go celebrate now, it’s Christmas :) I bet they’re waiting for you.

Don’t put people down to feel smugly superior on Christmas. If you must, simply stay offline for the day.

      Just .ml things.

There’s a grain of truth in here somewhere, but it’s really hard to find.

Of course their message is just “West bad, Christmas bad.”

It’s the truth. You think rampant consumerism isn’t creating consequences? Do you think personal purchases shouldn’t be held to moral standards?

I do my absolute best I can to source anything I buy from countries that I know uphold labor standards. Beyond that, I also attempt to buy sustainably and especially from worker coops and union made goods.

So no, I don’t buy nothing from china(and other countries without strong labor laws). But I do buy very, very little from there, and only when there are no other options. Considering the only material goods I buy are bikes, Clothes, and food, it’s not the hardest.

Will they ever look at why and how China itself would allow these conditions to arise as a complicated nuanced view of global trade?

        Nah, West bad

Or realistic suggestions to fix actual problems?

No, they just want to throw blame onto parents who buy their kids gifts for Christmas. Because clearly that is the evil.

The actual evil in this image is wearing shoes in the house. Funny that that’s likely also part of the propaganda against the West.

(Started as tongue in cheek and ended less so.)

The funny thing is that they think this is some grade A anti-capitalist porn, when all it really does is show how the countries that allow sweatshops are morally bankrupt.

And where are those sweatshops usually located?
