From late-night host cancellations to removing LGBTQ+ history from government sites, politicians in both parties are contributing to the overwriting of the internet — a place where lots of queer and trans people first find community.

Top Democrats are continuing to enable Trump’s anti-LGBTQ+ tech agenda in three key ways. The first is through misguided attacks on Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act, known as the “First Amendment” of the Internet. Section 230 specifies that online platforms like TikTok and Instagram can’t be held legally responsible for content that their users upload. It’s what prevents tech companies from being sued by billionaires and the government when people share content they don’t like. It’s why you can post on social media about a protest, or link to information on abortion and LGBTQ+ health care, and the company that owns the platform can’t be held liable and pressured to take it down. It also protects platforms from being prosecuted under discriminatory state laws that criminalize LGBTQ+ content and other “forbidden” topics and resources.

    Most seated Dems are actually Republicans. Completely bought by corps and Israel. And many probably aligned with heritage foundation.

    It’s taken me a long time to realize that the Democratic Party, for the most part, doesn’t actually hold any principled stands on anything at all. I think they used to, but something changed when Clinton was elected and they abandoned new deal politics. For the sake of political expediency, they will employ rhetoric that sounds good sometimes, but none of it is backed by any beliefs whatsoever. It’s a loose coalition of dead eyed opportunist, and the deluded idealists they are still able to manipulate. The leadership has zero concern for its base or constituency as a whole. Are there some individual exceptions? Of course there are, but not many. As currently situated, the party will never mount a meaningful opposition to fascism.
