The extrajudicial murders carried out by the Trump administration in the Caribbean build on a dangerous power grab forged by Dick Cheney and expanded under Barack Obama.

    Holy fuck. Get off it.

It’s always whataboutism with these clowns.

Fine. I won’t vote for Obama next time he runs for president.

It’s not whataboutism, it’s how we got here. What was once unthinkable is now happening and it takes a few intermediate steps to get there

Or make a different choice. Past choices aren’t permission slips to proceed to be worse.

Problem is our whole legal system functions this way in the form of precedence. Also, since the DOJ (who reports to the president) can write a letter saying the president is authorized to do something previously that was illegal, that makes it ok, and then next time, the bar is pushed even further.

We were always taught that the 3 branches of government were there to prevent stuff like this, but when 2 of the branches have abdicated their responsibility to ensure checks and balances, this is what we get.

I mean a vast majority of the dogshit we’re now sludging through is thanks to the patriot act, it’s true… The lesson to take is that when someone gets a gun out and puts it at you but says they’re not going to pull the trigger their gun should be removed rather than accepting that they have any desire to use it responsibly. The power itself would be nearly impossible to use responsibly.
