Only rich people use banks. Checkmate, libs!
Go vote guys! Time to save America as he parties!!!
I wish we could vote our way out of this but yall gotta start being mean to evil people. Even if is just like pissing on their toothbrush.
No action is too small or passive aggressive as long as you know for sure they are an evil sonofabitch who would rather starve children than not give corporations tax handouts.
Is this shocking to anyone?
“Let them eat cake!”
That reminds me, I have to sharpen my guillotine.
Expired cake mix, you mean.
As a European, the fact that you don’t have serious riots (at the level of supermarkets being robbed and federal buildings burned to the ground) is still surprising.
People will get shot or go to prison here. They already have for much less. You have no idea how brutal america is to people who inconvience the rich and has been for years. Florida passed laws making it legal to run over protestors. People have go to jail here for life because somebody shot their friend while their friend comitted a crime.
Europeans need to start talking about the ongoing human rights violations in the US and take our sicko country off their mental pedastal.
I’ve never put the USA on a pedestal, but I think you imagine Tsarist Russia as a place full of human rights. Those who stormed the Bastille in France risked more than any American protesting, I assure you. If all your rights are respected, do you need to protest in the first place?
What are you talking about with Tsarist Russia? A pre-industrial society comprised mainly of serfs is an unimaginable society to pollution riddled america where a third of every city is dedicated to state funded car infrastructure. These are wholly different societies at different industrial scales.
The reality is that the US has been like this for almost 100 years before which was was transitioning from european slave colonies. The most comparable revolution was probably the Civil War which lead to the industrialization of the south.
France is the size of like a mid sized US state. For something equivalent we’d need like 20 bastille stormings all on the same day to hold a candle against a modern security state. As for revolutions… Castro, in particular, noted he simply lucked out and didn’t recommend similar revolutions.
That’s not to say people shouldn’t do what they can, but its just nobody knows what the actual solution looks like or how to get there which is why people are stupidly looking at like post franco spain instead of the bolsheviks.
I’m consistently reminded of when TikTok got banned, and all of the Americans moved to Rednote. The Chinese users were gracious and accepting of the refugees, and it was a unique chance for them to talk to Americans directly without the governments meddling too much.
They started listing some of the “propaganda” that their government had created. All of it was so outlandish that they didn’t actually believe it was true. So many Chinese people were like “so the government tells us that your healthcare is cripplingly expensive, to the point that people will actively avoid medical care. But you’re the richest country in the world, and you have universal healthcare, right? If you go to the doctor, it’s free.” And all of the Americans had to be like “oh nope. Uhh… No. That one is true. I needed stitches in middle school after a bad fall. My parents gave me a double dose of over-the-counter painkillers, doused the entire thing in rubbing alcohol while I screamed, superglued it shut in our bathroom, and told me they’d beat me if I got tetanus from it. I still have a really gnarly scar from it…”
Then they were like “oh well okay, that sucks. But at least you all have houses. The government tells us you all struggle to afford housing. Housing is so expensive here. It can cost upwards of three years of salary, just for a single family house! The government provides low interest loans, but they’re difficult to save up for when we’re spending 20% of our income in rent… All of you Americans live in gigantic mansions, right? If you can’t afford housing, the government provides a luxury apartment for you until you can buy a house.” And the Americans had to be like “Oh. Uhh… No. That one is… Uhh… Yeah that one is also true. We’re in the middle of a housing crisis, with a few billionaires buying all of the properties and artificially inflating their value so nobody else can afford to buy, then renting them back to us at 70% of our monthly income so we can never hope to save up for a down payment… It is driving a massive homelessness crisis, and many Americans are having to choose between rent and food.”
And then the Chinese people were like “wait they’re having to choose between rent and food? If you can’t afford food, the government gives you food. You don’t need to pay for any of it, because the government takes care of that if you’re too poor.” And all of the Americans had to be like “Oh uhh… Yeah no, government assistance is actually comically difficult to get here, has a LOT of stipulations, and is critically underfunded to the point that the entire system is about to collapse. Food instability rates are reaching all time highs, especially among the homeless and the elderly. And the system is designed to keep poor people poor, by punishing them for making too much money if they do manage to get assistance. Once you get on food stamps, getting off of them is an extremely difficult process… Because as soon as you start trying to raise yourself out of poverty, the government pulls the rug out from underneath you and takes your food stamps away.”
And then the Chinese people went “well at least you can always go get a second job to pay for food, right? Our government tells us you work a ton of hours, but we all know that’s fake. You only work a couple of hours a week, right? Our factory jobs can be pretty grueling, with 12 hour shifts and 72 hour weeks. But most people here just do that when they’re young and fresh out of school, to springboard into better jobs.” And then the Americans had to go “Oh uhh… No. We’re struggling to afford everything even when many people have two or even three jobs. Our pay has stagnated for so long that many people are working 80-90 hour weeks just to barely pay the bills. We have people in “good” jobs who are waitressing on the side to afford their food.”
And at that point, the Chinese people started going “so uhh… Real talk for a second… Why the hell are you guys tolerating this? We would have been lighting fires in government buildings and publicly executing government officials a long time ago…”
And the worst part is that things have only continued to devolve since the TikTok ban happened back in January. Every single thing I posted has gotten much worse since then.
It’s coming, but we respect the Constitution, so we have to let it play out, which it is, slowly, but inexorably. The moment is coming when he is going to cross a Red Line, like cancelling or suspending elections or rounding up American citizens for their political or lifestyle differences, and if the Supreme Court allows it, America is officially over.
THEN it’s on. But we’re still hoping that we can gain some ground on the Midterms, and suppress their cheating strategies enough to win back the presidency in 2028.
Then we better deal with MAGA decisively, or well b just be going through it again in 2032.
but we respect the Constitution
Reaaaaaally doesn’t appear that the vast majority do respect it.
No, the VAST majority do respect the Constitution. It’s just a few relatively few PedoCon Traitors who are wiping their asses with it. They are not even close to the majority.
I’m not an American but I can kinda understand why. Gotta tow that line. A good chunk of Americans are on the verge of homelessness and all their healthcare is tied directly to their employment. So rioting, looting grocery stores, etc runs a risk of not only being arrested or killed but also losing their jobs and thus losing their healthcare. The US Government has done a brilliant job over the decades of establishing a system preventing people from revolting.
Now one can argue that other countries would revolt and they’d also lose said things mentioned above because how can you get healthcare if you’re actively fighting the system that provides it? But Americans don’t know that. They’ve been conditioned to, again, tow the line.
Add to the fact there’s zero leadership for said revolt. Literally none. This isn’t like Black Lives Matter where there was an organization rallying everyone. I mean the proof is in the pudding just look at the No Kings protests. when do those happen? on the weekend, on a Saturday, when the vast majority are off work.
Now if those protests happened at 11am on a Tuesday I’d be impressed, but as it stands right now? that ain’t happening any time soon. They need leadership, they have none.
The US Government has done a brilliant job over the decades of establishing a system preventing people from revolting.
This included eliminating and criminalizing the ideas of sedition and mutiny in the military; the closest the US came to see mutiny were mostly race riots and protests against discrimination within the military, then later protests against the Vietnam War and interventionism in Iraq.
FYI, the phrase is “Toe the line.” As in: “Git your toes on that line in the dirt/sand, (insert perjorative here)” Just another reminder of our slaver past
Git your toes on that line in the dirt/sand, (insert perjorative here)
You’re right about the spelling and meaning of lining up along a line, but none of the proposed origins of the term have it coming from slavery. Wikipedia mentions it could be from British armed services, public school roll calls, or a couple other possibilities
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Toe_the_line?useskin=vector#Origins
Well, it’s nice to know that it didn’t originate here. We certainly used it that way.
I don’t know, I’m not that familiar with the American system or society, but if they think behaving like Samuel L. Jackson in the Django Unchained movie will save them from losing all that, they’re delusional.
Maybe never having had a real dictatorship in their country has made them think they can still get rid of these people by the book, but that’s not going to happen. Bannon said it the other day: they know that if they lose power they’ll end up in jail. They won’t get out of there except by force.
Bannon is full of shit. No one in the US political sphere has ever been imprisoned for illegal behavior. Especially not war crime. NEVER for corruption.
you hit the nail on the head. Americans believe the book still works. you can go in various threads be it on lemmy, piefed, reddit, etc and still the rhetoric “remember people, vote them out in the midterms!” is still being posted. Meanwhile a Democratic Rep from Arizona who DID win is STILL waiting to be sworn in. So the Republican Party/Current Dictatorship is clearly showing the American people that voting doesn’t matter. that they can simply block people who did win via votes from doing their jobs. Americans still don’t understand that. They still firmly believe that they’ll win the midterms by a landslide but…what then? the republican party can simply and president can simply say “nah, we’re good” and just stay in power. whose to stop them? and the current administration is hedging on that bet.
I think the midterm elections will be the real turning point. If nothing gives him an excuse before then, and nothing serious comes out against him, still—when the elections come, he’ll pull that same crap again about how opposing his will is illegal and will declare martial law to get Congress out of his way. By then, it’ll be too late.
Maybe never having had a real dictatorship in their country has made them think they can still get rid of these people by the book
Correct. The goons didn’t rise to power by following the books.
I’m still holding out hope that someone in the military or the FBI will turn around and say “this shit is not acceptable” and arrest him or get him out of there without making more of a fuss than necessary. I know it’s unlikely, but I don’t lose hope.
Despite headlines, it hasn’t gotten that desperate yet. If nothing changes this month December will likely go down in history books. For now people are still trying to avoid squaring off against the brute squads (ICE), of give trump an excuse to use the regular army against us before they are too hungry to be loyal. When the food banks start running dry is when the violence will start.
Not a sociologist.
Riots need a flash point. The murder of George Floyd is a good example.
So far, there’s been a steady grinding down, but no single event brings people together.
Thats because they also threatened the media.
Also non-US, could it be that the threat of gun violence quells the population into obedience? I know I’d be more than happy to riot here in Australia because I’m unlikely to be shot and killed by a random stranger.
usa people are heavily propagandized to have an aversion to violence, and obedience to authority.
Armed repression works, to a certain extent. All revolutions sooner or later encounter the violence of the system, I’m talking about revolutions, not more or less peaceful protests like those of “no king.” Ask the Romanovs if that works forever
Should be around DEC 3 when military commecaries close and the food banks run dry.
Because the US government is militarized and has a history of attacking and killing even peaceful protesters.
But these old men they love to vote for are poor scholars of history when they actively are putting millions into positions where they have nothing to lose, after decades of letting the corrupt gun industry arm them with significant fire power. But given there is no leadership for these people this will play out in pockets of random violence and even more authoritarianism by a Fascist government.
As a USian I agree
This man can’t stop winning. Or napping. Or diddling little kids.
Are you saying that Donald j Trump, current president of the United States of America, and best friend of Jeffrey r Epstein, rapes children?
At this point probably not, he’d get too excited and have a heart attack
Doesn’t mean he won’t go grab them by the pussy or dick or whatever I’m sure he goes both ways.
Where is the guillotine?
If you build it, they will come…

But seriously, everyone wants FDR 2.0 to show up, but they ig ore before we could get FDR, we had a US president sic tanks on protestors, including women and children.
On July 28, 1932, U.S. Attorney General William D. Mitchell ordered the veterans removed from all government property. Washington police met with resistance, shot at the protestors, and two veterans were wounded and later died. President Herbert Hoover then ordered the U.S. Army to clear the marchers’ campsite. Army Chief of Staff General Douglas MacArthur commanded a contingent of infantry and cavalry, supported by six tanks. The Bonus Army marchers with their wives and children were driven out, and their shelters and belongings burned.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bonus_Army
4 months later FDR beat the ever living daylights out of Hoover.
But, and this is important, when FDR won, the protesters didn’t just do a 180 and pretend everything was better. They weren’t blindly supporting one of two options:
A second, smaller Bonus March in 1933 at the start of the Roosevelt administration was defused in May with an offer of jobs with the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) at Fort Hunt, Virginia, which most of the group accepted. Those who chose not to work for the CCC by the May 22 deadline were given transportation home.[2] In 1936, Congress overrode President Roosevelt’s veto and paid the veterans their bonus nine years early.
He’s doing this on purpose. He is compelled to gloat about his transgressions and crimes, just as he’s dropped broad hints that the election was rigged, about the insurrection, etc.
He knows he can.
Its clear he is up to speed on nazi Germany but he didn’t go back far enough to the french revolution.
To no one’s surprise.
Yep not a trump issue, this is a legislative impediment.
So the bloke that apparently solves all wars can’t get funding passed? Doesn’t have great optics if he’s out galavanting does it.
May the odds never be in your favor.
