In psychology, reactance is an unpleasant motivational reaction to offers, persons, rules, regulations, advice, recommendations, information, nudges, and messages that are perceived to threaten or eliminate specific behavioral freedoms. Reactance occurs when an individual feels that an agent is attempting to limit one’s choice of response and/or range of alternatives.

    Yup. Have had a few coworkers exactly like that. Have tried to deal with them in various ways, but it’s always tricky. Especially if they are the “popular person” in the office.

    Another variant is the jackass who walks in and sees others working on something, acts angry that they are “doing it all wrong” then huffs out without actually pitching in. Had a coworker who consistently did this BS to try to cover his own inadequacies and tardiness. Was so happy when the boss fired that fucker.
