Cuomo tried to win the primary as a Democratic candidate but couldn’t, so in most other states he wouldn’t be allowed to run in the same election under a different party. But NY has no such law, so he’s allowed to run as an independent in the same election.
Reminder that this wouldn’t be happening if New York wasn’t one of the few states without ‘sore loser’ laws to prevent this exact scenario.
