It sounds great but I have no idea what the resolution on my phone is right now. After 640x480 my brain stopped comprehension

I wouldn’t really care for that. OLED would be more import than screen resolution. But that surely depends on the use-case. I don’t game on it and don’t watch media. Even if I’d do, it would be fine on this tiny screen.

The screen is huge for a phone. This type of screen resolution can damage the eyes on a large screen (the lower the dpi, the greater the strain on the eyes to bring the screen into focus).

Sure sure, but it also depends on the use-case. I use mine as an emergency-phone and notifications from my own apps. Occasionally a chat. Couldn’t care less for eye strain. Besides I grew up with crt-screens that fried my retinas 😁

I am so irritated by my iPhone lately that I want to love this and adopt it, but…the specs are awful, and it’s made of plastic. Ugghh. I’m so conflicted

For context I did up a comparison of my iPhone to the FLX1s

    | Spec | iPhone 16 Pro | FLX1S | | Display size | 6.3″ | 6.7″ | | Resolution | 2622 × 1206 (460 ppi)  | 1600 × 720 | | Refresh rate | Up to 120Hz ProMotion  | 90Hz | | Glass / Front protection | Ceramic Shield front  | Dragontrail Glass | | Always‑On / Dynamic Island | Yes / Yes  | No / No | | Processor / Chip | Apple A18 Pro  | MediaTek Dimensity 900 | | CPU cores / config | 6‑core CPU (2 performance + 4 efficiency)  | 2x ARM Cortex‑A78 @ 2.4 GHz + 6x ARM Cortex‑A55 @ 2.0 GHz | | GPU | 6‑core Apple GPU  | Mali‑G68 MC4 | | RAM | 8GB LPDDR5X  | 8GB LPDDR4x | | Storage options | 128GB / 256GB / 512GB / 1TB NVMe  | 128GB UFS | | SD card slot | No  | Yes (microSD up to 1TB) | | Rear cameras | 48MP Main + Ultra Wide + Telephoto (5× optical zoom)  | 20MP primary + 2MP macro | | Front camera | 12MP TrueDepth  | 13MP | | Video recording | Up to 4K at 120fps, Dolby Vision, ProRes  | Likely up to 1080p | | Battery (capacity) | ~3582 mAh (approx)  | 5000 mAh Li‑Po | | Charging / USB version | USB‑C with USB 3 / fast‑charge capable; MagSafe + Qi2 wireless  | USB‑C (USB 2.0), wired only | | Wireless charging | Yes  | No | | 5G Support | Yes (mmWave + Sub‑6)  | Yes | | Wi‑Fi | Wi‑Fi 7  | Wi‑Fi 6 | | Bluetooth version | Bluetooth 5.3  | Bluetooth 5.2 | | SIM / eSIM | Dual eSIM only (in most markets)  | Dual SIM | | Biometric security | Face ID (TrueDepth)  | Side‑mounted fingerprint | | Materials / Frame | Titanium frame + Ceramic Shield front  | Polycarbonate frame + glass back | | Water / Splash Resistance | IP68 (up to 6m for 30 min)  | Splash‑resistant | | Weight | 199g  | 201g | | Price | From US$999  | US$550 |

Why is dynamic island a feature? Seems like a good thing that something doesn’t have that nonsense, since the whole thing is a workaround for having a hole in your screen.

Yeah exactly. The gimmick created around the fact that there’s a hole in the screen where the front-facing camera is, to mask the glaring hole like it’s a feature instead of a drawback.

I would pay double for better specs. Like, clearly, because I did. This Liquid Glass nonsense feels like a gimmick from the 00’s. Steve Jobs must be rolling over in his grave. He’s probably been rolling over since all the stock buybacks started.

It’s not an iPhone competitor. What’s the point in completing 2 devices which such different prices. The iPhone is 2x the price of this thing.

          the specs are awful,

well the screen is weird, and why is this USB 2 (really, what’s behind this? the fairphone 6 got a downgrade to usb 2 too), but that’s it. oh and the plastic but I guess it depends on what kind, it can be ok

I want tap to pay. It’s thing the mainstream phones have that Linux phones don’t that I want. Well that and wireless charging.

Never heard of, but sounds great. I was also lucky to read “based in HK” as I feared it’d be us-based 😊

But…what about the camera? Is it worth anything?

This is hugely disappointing. They launched a worse all around phone and are trying to market it like good news. I was seriously considering them for my next phone purchase, but if this is all they offer when the time comes, I will have to skip it… The only “upgrade” is 2 more GB of ram, but the screen is worse (slightly bigger, significantly worse resolution), camera is worse, no headphone jack, not IP68… They also mention that existing orders for the old version are either being “upgraded” to this new version, or refunded. So it sounds like the original FLX1 is dead in the water. Very sad news.
