Whatever. For as long as trump is around, nothing he says matters, the US can’t be trusted and I will continue to go out of my way to avoid American products. The first step to fixing relations with Canada is getting rid of Trump. Nothing will even begin to be fixed until then

Obama should just call Canada and lay out the new trade deal, and insist that Canada refer to it as “Obama’s Trade Deal”.

If trump refuses to sign it, America loses. If he does sign, he’s signing something called Obamas Trade Deal.

I mean trump proved the Logan act is completely toothless, if that’s what you’re alluding to. Obama should do it.

Toothless until a moment like now where the Right controls our entire government. They’d hang him. Sorry, they’d lynch him.

The bottom line: While Trump’s actions might be “unseemly,” the history of the Logan Act and the fact that it’s never been legally tested mean that it’s not a “meaningful law” that’s “likely to ever be used, against Trump or anyone else”

Good enough for me! let’s get to negotiating.

        America loses

        That’s exactly what trump wants.

A bag of big macs congealing on his desk, a victim of sex trafficking in his bed and some news on tv that will make putin happy.

Or even if Trump comes up with some deal that’s barely acceptable by Canada, Canada should still insist it be called Obama’s Trade Deal or no agreement.

He will draw a deal that isn’t implemented with his sharpie.

Ehh…whatever. TACO is going to TACO. It’s all a pathetic shell game to boast his ego. And it’s a bonus for him if it gets the news cycle to move on from the story about the Canadian national who died in ICE custody.

Exactly. This is just an attempt to redirect focus away from the other Canada/US news story. It’s Disney making a movie called Frozen, so when people google “Disney Frozen” there aren’t a ton of “Walt Disney’s head is cryogenically frozen under the castle” news articles. It’s Boris Johnson saying he likes to paint miniature bus models, so when people google “Boris Johnson Bus” they don’t get articles about his Brexit bus.

It’s called the Dead Cat Maneuver. If you’re publicly losing an argument, throw a dead cat on the table. Suddenly, everyone is talking about the dead cat, instead of the argument you were losing.

hes been using this manuever constantly, to distract from the protests, his parade+ the shootings, and before that it was distraction from the BBB and tariffs, both of these are his main goals. same thing they did in 2017, the tax cuts were distracted by the stupid NN bill, the MSM are all on board for this, because the conservative ceos all need these distractions.

In most situations I’d think you meant “boost his ego” but in this case, I think “boast” is more accurate.

Haha yeah. I had started to write the sentence about him boasting about his deal making skills, but it felt clunky so I changed it. Clearly I didn’t catch that I hadn’t changed it to boost, but your right, somehow it works.

It’s fucking market manipulation again, isn’t it? He’ll probably downplay it early next week then not talk about the topic again
