Feel free to have a look at
Dark, the German sci-fi on Netflix that is super highly rated on a bunch of websites. It is incredible. From production value to writing quality to casting. Just such a good tv show. If you are at all into sci-fi thriller/mysteries, just watch it.
i absolutely loved that show. i felt that the pacing could be a bit slow at times, and that the show was sometimes a little repetitive, but the plot was so unique and interesting that i didn’t mind very much. and a bit of repetition isn’t the worst thing in the world, especially not when done properly. definitely worth a watch. i haven’t seen a show with such good writing in a while, especially in such a complex setting. and i loved watching the complexity of the setting gradually reveal itself.
spoiler (for the tv show)
also the plot of the show just inherently lends itself to having a bit of repetition. and i think the repetition helped to build suspense a bit. the ending was also very good in my opinion.
Such a good show!
My wife had never seen Breaking Bad, so I’m inducing her to one of the best TV shows of all time.
Okay, so I like bummer movies.
Might be my new favorite. Tells the story of a womans life over the course of several years. I adore this format where you can see realistic problems unfold, how relationships were doomed from the start and how others can be repaired with time. I’m sure there are people who would say it’s boring and nothing major happens. But, isn’t that life? We all create our own drama.
I don’t think she is the worst person in the world. But I understand what she might think that of herself.
A slow burn horror about toxic flawed faith in extreme diet culture. Did you know that you don’t ACTUALLY need to eat? Companies just TELL you that to sell you more food. It takes legitimate criticism of consumerism well past what I thought was extreme. Fantastic yet tragically plausible.
Lots of big names doing A+ performances, a brutal story of a strained dysfunctional family finally breaking when their father disappears. When your parents do nothing but sow discord and cruelty they’ll only reap chaos and heartbreak. The abject cruelty is hard to stomach at points, but it fosters the payoff as the family learns to stand up for themselves.
Tokyo Story by Yasujiro Ozu.
it’s been a while since i watched a movie that made me feel something the way that movie did. i’m not really sure how to talk about it without sounding a bit like a pretentious film snob. i’ll do my best, but bear with me here.
basically, Ozu’s style of film-making is very different from a lot of the other movies i tend to watch. it feels like he’s picking you up and putting you into his world, as a silent observer. he doesn’t mind making you sit down and watch as some mundane things happen. (e.g., ships passing by, people getting ready to leave the house, etc.) i think this makes it much easier to feel connected to not just the characters, but also the world they find themselves in. and it was honestly such a nice change of pace from the “always on” kind of movies that i’ve been watching recently. (but i still like those too, it’s just nice to see something different every once in a while.)
and i think this kind film-making really works for the story he’s trying to tell. i feel like it helped me connect and empathize with the characters in a way i wouldn’t be able to otherwise. i’d solidly recommend the movie to anybody who might be interested in something like that.
A sad choice, indeed
If you haven’t already seen them you might like Jean de Florette and Manon des Sources. They’re slower paced and more contemplative than most modern films which seek to pack in “exposition, explosions, endings” as quickly as possible. They give room for the characters to breathe and for the viewer to immerse They’re also beautiful stories.
i haven’t seen either of those but they sound right up my alley. i’ll be sure to check those out. it’s nice when it feels like a movie isn’t in a hurry to be over.
40th anniversary 4K restoration of Paris, Texas at the cinema.
I Walk Around Moscow (1963, 4K, English subtitles).
what a coincidence. I have Paris Texas queued up.
haven’t watched it in a decade, looking forward to it.
Working my way through the Wano arc in One Piece
I’m part way through Impel Down, according to wiki I’m 15 years behind!
I’ve just discovered the show Travelers and I can’t stop watching. Not all the episodes are hits but I love these kinds of setups and plots. On the final season already and wondering what to watch next
That new Batman. They made some interesting changes. I really like the new take on Harley
the cartoon? if so the penguin turned me off a bit but after watching the season and how they did some alteration all around I got more into it.
I’m listening to Darknet Diaries and it’s great.
Phantom of the Paradise. So wonderfully camp.
I would love to rewatch that one! Haven’t seen it since I was a kid.
It was a ‘live’ watch with a full band and folks singing the parts. It was super fun to see with a sizable crowd.
Like RHPS?! Hot damn that sounds like fun!
YES! And it WAS!
My young teen was there and was super weirded out. Which was also fun!
The election results roll in and that’s it.
Deadpool and Wolverine and I haven’t laughed as hard at a movie in a long time.
definitely had to turn off any automatic cynicism kicking in, but once I was able to sink into the dumb fun, which happened nearly immediately with the opening dance number, i laughed a lot the entire movie and enjoyed a couple genuine surprises.
and I really liked the credit scenes.
I’ve had super hero fatigue since Guardians of the Galaxy 1 but Deadpool Wolverine was a blast. I think because I was so tired of Marvel, all the jabs they made about the culture and tropes of the MCU and Sony really hit
And the constant flat out statements of how crappy Marvel movies are now. Priceless. I was also completely unprepared for the sheer number of, shall we say, ‘surprises’ they packed in. I was honestly craving more!
ha, yea, that rings true, i felt the same way.

crunchy roll wrapped up its halloween horror freebies so caught up on the last season of lois and superman and the rick and morty anime. Right now binge cleaning with this interesting show called the terror.
The substance:. Definetelly a movie to watch but not one id feel like watching again. I quite liked it but i feel that people are reading too much into it.
Mad Max Furiosa:. This impressed me more that i had expected. Quite well done and full of action.
