Actor: Dwight Schultz
I was watching the 2010 version of the A-Team (great movie imo), and I wanted to know what cameos there were (because I suck at recognizing actors). Lo and behold, to my delight, the cross-over of all cross-overs: Star Trek and A-Team.

I used to think that it was a shame that we started having more information about how horrible people are. I used to like Roseanne before I found out what an asshole she was. I used to like Bill Cosby. I used to like Lance Armstrong, Michael Jackson, and it even turns out that Michael Jordan is a huge asshole.
Where have all the heroes gone? If only we didn’t know how horrible these people are, we could still have heroes.
But then, I thought, what’s so great about having flawed heroes? That type of thinking is probably why people build cults of personality around politicians. Just get rid of the whole idea.
Celebrities who suck should just be written off, and if that means that we have to live with cover versions of Michael Jackson songs, I think that’s something I can live with.
Maybe this will be the best use case for AI. We can just take all of these movies and TV shows, and use AI to replace the assholes with some fake person. Fuck 'em.
Maybe if we did this, celebrities, who are disproportionately concerned about being famous, would start to be worried about being forgotten and replaced, and they’d start to know their place.
Did he learn nothing about empathy and compassion from playing Barclay on Star Trek!?
Barclay would probably identify with a lot of that super toxic incel crap, which can be a stepping stone to extremism.
I know the character worked it out to some extent, but I wouldn’t be surprised if it lingered.
He just learned to cover it better.

In a somewhat related vein, I also had the idea of Scott Bakula playing Archer, but he’s actually Sam Beckett from Quantum Leap having leapt into Archer.

The movie that plays at the Mannheim psychiatric hospital begins with The A-Team (1983) theme music, and its credits contain names that relate to the original team’s careers: The first name credited is “Reginald Barclay”. Dwight Schultz, who was the original Murdock, played a character named Reginald Barclay in Star Trek: The Next Generation (1987). The next credit reads “Thomas Banacek”. George Peppard, who was the original Hannibal, played investigator Thomas Banacek in Banacek (1972). The third and final credit reads “G.F. Starbuck”. Dirk Benedict, who was the original Face, played Lieutenant Starbuck in Battlestar Galactica (1978).
But how did they know his role that was still as yet in the future?
At the time, I knew her from Free Willy.

I’ve been rewatching TNG and recognizing all sorts of actors who played Seinfeld side characters, etc but never realized Barclay and Murdock were the same actor.

After college, all of us broke kids on our first appointment had our first apartment, and would watch two episodes of Twilight Zone every night at midnight. It’s amazing how many famous actors made appearances, in almost every episode. They were unknown then, and became stars.
Honestly, some of the best actors are the ones you never recognize between roles.
If you want to see a lot of Star Trek actors playing small parts in a different franchise, there are a lot in Babylon 5, probably to nobody’s surprise. Including Barclay.
And x files with also a lot of the Vancouver scene actors.
There’s also Bob Kelso with his egg.

Barclay was a Gooner. That whole holodeck incident was a metaphor for porn addiction, which will be a major issue when holodecks come along. If I had one, I’d never leave.
