20% of the parliament is women. Beating the US congress.
The 119th Congress is 28% women.
Not exactly a brag, still about 20% short, but I suppose it’s still a win when compared to the Kingdom of Saudia Arabia.

They’re gonna say it was Ukraine. Lindsey was going to whistleblow the whole thing and that’s why he needed to die.

Dem soc =/= Soc dem
Democratic socialists are socialists, social democrats are not.

In a de facto two party system it certainly can feel like a spoiler vote, however a single issue party can be highly influential in getting larger parties to adopt better positions on those single issues in order to avoid having votes syphoned away. In a truely multiparty system, a single issue party can directly extract concessions if they end up as part of a coalition government or are in a king-maker situation following an election.

- I did everything I could, I recycled and brought my own cup to the coffee shop
Everything I could, except vote for representatives who prioritize climate over line-go-up

Carney’s comments were his first on the issue after Statistics Canada data on Friday showed a slight contraction of gross domestic product (GDP) for two straight quarters, meeting the technical definition of a recession.
Technical recession = recession
If Q1 gets revised up from -0.1% then it wasn’t a recession, by definition, but could also be revised even further down. The economists really missed the mark on their predictions, so who knows what to expect now.
Not anymore they’re not.
Pride celebrations struggle as corporate sponsorships dry up
Trump’s anti-DEI initiatives have been successful in changing boardroom behavior across the country.
Seems they were never really on anyone’s side to begin with.

Intelligent people don’t join such professions and even if they tried these institutions intentionally filter them out.
That’s not it either.
It might not be just that, but it is literally that too.

I mean, the Libs are doing everything I’d expect from Stephen Harper’s Bank of Canada guy and the Tory’s Bank of England guy.
Not being able to tell if the Libs or Cons are in charge just feels like more evidence of how far we’ve ratcheted to the right.
Don’t forget Finland in 2023 and Sweden in 2024.
Federally, Canada has not had a Conservative government since late 2015. Though we now have that previous Conservative government’s cental banker as our PM, but he calls himself a Liberal.
Ontario has had a Conservative government since mid-2018.
The problem, as I see it, is that environmentalism has lost a lot of momentum over the past decade. America bailing on the Paris climate accords, twice, really seems to have set the tone for other Western democracies, at least in their sense of urgency on this issue.
In Canada it does not help that the US’s trade war has provided the government with a lot of cover to pursue “energy priorities” without the normal consultation process or environmental considerations.
