I just want a conventional desktop paradigm that feels relatively integrated. For almost a decade I used Cinnamon until I found myself really wanting Wayland. For the past 5 years or so, I have used GNOME. It’s clean, and with a few tweaks it meets my needs.
I bought my first Ticketmaster tickets ever recently and was shocked at the price. First and probably last time ever doing this.

All of the responses to this story seem to emphasize the legality of the court order, but that highlights the risk of the modern era: governments acting unethically, immorally, and leveraging the law to forward those goal. And if business will always capitulate, then ultimately they are an extension of that state authority - not a servant of the customer.
In the end, privacy becomes a brand, but not a reality.
Correct answer. It creates extremely perverse incentives in society to allow people to bet on large scale harm.

I like Fedora for my desktop. Close enough to upstream to get the latest features, but not so bleeding edge that it’s unstable.
I moved in 2025. Moved to the Netherlands. No downsides besides having to file (but not pay) US taxes, and how FATCA discourages European banks from taking US citizen customers.

I moved my family. When my kid needs higher education, it won’t cost more than our home. I can send him out in the streets without worrying he’ll be hit by a truck going 80. Active shooter or intruder drills aren’t a phenomenon in his school.
I only wish we could have done it sooner.

Counterpoint: I think it’s reasonable to inform people of what a dev team allows into their project, or how they’re directing the development of the product.
For some people, it will be a hard no. Others maybe don’t mind AI interoperability if it’s not in the codebase itself. Others won’t mind if the app is critical to their workflow, but may reject apps that are less critical. Others don’t care at all.
I look at it like the Denuvo labeling curator on Steam. Nothing wrong in informing people.
