    Tax stamps (recently repealed)

For the longest time, if you wanted certain types of weapons, you had to pay a $200 tax to own that weapon. These include surpressors, full auto guns, short barrel rifles, and short barrel shotguns

The point wasn’t to ban these things it was to make them prohibitively expensive because “its the poor’s who vomit violence”. And this tax was implemented in the 1940’s where $200 was off 2 or 4 times the cost of the gun itself.

A different example is gun registries and concealed carry license databases. I don’t trust the police to act calm when interacting with me when they know I have a gun. There are special classes that CCL holders take often so that they know how to read a cop and keep them calm during a traffic stop or a welfare check because cops are trained to shoot first and are very scared of the masses.

Think of Paretti here. Shot dead for having a gun. People blamed it on the ICE agent being a violent fascist thug trained like that. I don’t see it that way. I think he operated like a cop who was told no consequences.

We have videos of cops approaching black men, committing the crime of being in white people spaces, who ask them if they have a gun, the man says yes, the cop tells them at gun point to pull it out and drop it, and then shoost the man when he touches the gun.

I don’t trust police to use surveillance state information like who owns what guns in a way that won’t get me killed. Its why I’m still hesitant to get any tax stamp items. I’d love an SBR, but then I am legally required to let the ATF “inspect” my home if they ask me to. I have to tell the ATF when and where I’m moving to if I change states.

  • Mildly related.

I have a Native American friend. Her tribe is small so they only have a relatively small plot as their reservation. So they slapped a casino there and she makes bank by simply being a tribe member.

I asked if she’s okay with that since I would feel bad making money off of peoples gambling addiction and she said

“I don’t feel bad for white people.”

    And honestly

    1. I don’t think that’s a completely shocking take consider all of american history

    But also

    1. Its certainly a similar sentiment among sex workers I’ve met so its not an unfounded accusation.

This is very much a “if your eye is causing you to sin, pluck it out” moment, but still

  • I think the problem you’re running into is that Valve isn’t doing nothing with that pay.

Like valve is actively making my gaming experience better by developing cheap hardware and a good system for gaming on Linux.

All the games I’ve ever bought, regardless of if they still sell them are in my library.

My save files are cloud synced for free.

I as the end user am having a good time.

I also have a sunk cost thing going on. I’ve been trying to buy and play more GOG games but I just have so much that works already on Linux without any work that it’s hard to justify the tinker time to get it working otherwise.

They provide such a good service I think we’ve all forgotten about the children casinos for CSGO2 skins, but even that they’re fixing (kinda).

Maybe its just nice to not be mad about something. Like its just video games, I don’t really care if Valve has a monopoly on that since 1) Experience is good 2) they’re not trying to have like a monopoly on water or something important. Bad take maybe, but there’s enough going on that I just don’t know if I could make myself care that valve is like 90% of videogame sales. Or whatever it is.

  • I’m personally allergic to doing anything to my distro other than installing games and VSCodium.

Its why I barely understand the X11 v Wayland discussion. I have no idea how to customize my Linux set up, if a troubleshooting step says “May bork computer if done wrong” I just reinstall the Distro or try another one. It takes like 5-10 minutes to install Linux on most modern computers

To me this is a feature of Linux. “It works on my distro” means I’m using that distro now!

  • The 2009 BBC Hamlet with David Tenant and Patrick Stewart is, without a doubt, the best possible version of hamlet on stage, on film, in its entirety.

I worked through and annotated hamlet and then watched that version. Just me, a dark room, popcorn, and a cozy spot.

It has made me obsess over Hamlet. Such a wonderful story!

As a 6’2" this is my every day life.

I bang my head on nearly every door.

I have permanent brain damage and must be cared for regularly as my motor functions fail me from time to time.

I can barely talk coherently and I use an eye tracking keyboard to write like Stephen Hawking. This message will have taken hours to write.

But I’ve never had issues getting laid from dating apps because I’m 6’2"
