I am Lattrommi. Yes, that one. You’ve never heard of me? I’m not surprised. It is often said that anything you put on the internet will live there forever. It becomes immortal. I do everything backwards and wrong. I do not live forever, I am always dying. ¿|√∞²|?

    Stay on Earth.

Pretend all is normal and fine.

Once the ‘elite’ have left to their new planet:

Cut off all communications with them.

Destroy any of their supply lines left behind.

    Wait 5-10 years.

Watch as the Earth heals rapidly, with it’s biggest source of destruction now gone and nature resumes being an unstoppable force.

Live a long and happy life, free of megalomaniacs.

Optional: hold hands with two chicks at the same time.

  • It didn’t happen while Biden was in the height of his presidency

    It didn’t?

In his first year in office I remember loans were getting partially forgiven through the public service forgiveness, (for firefighters, teachers, first responders and other civil servants) Prior to Biden, that program forgave ~7,000 loans in full or in part since it started in 2007. Overall, the current leadership has forgave some or all student loan debt for over 4 million people so far. That’s pretty great I think. Hopefully they manage to help a few more of the remaining 10 million victims.

  • The key words there are ‘long term’. It takes forever to get these rules and regulations in place and they aren’t going to be dismantled immediately. Rome didn’t fall in a day. I think IDR’s and most of the alternative payment plans have fixed interest rates. You’re likely at a fixed rate already. Ask about those if you call the loan servicer. Any significant change will take time and have pushback. Get your shit sorted out ASAP for sure, you should be doing that anyways. Then worry about what changes a bankrupted pedophile might try to pull.

  • I moved all my debt from a third party to being a government loan. Does that change anything?

Yes, that is the wisest move you could have mmade considering your circumstances as I understand. I am not an accountant, lawyer or professional of any kind that’s relevant. Some of what I say here may be incorrect. To the best of my knowledge it’s accurate. I am someone who had the entirety of their student loans forgiven, thanks to president Joe Biden. It took a large amount of time spent reading legalese, time on the phone with loan servicer representatives and way too much time worrying about shit which I could not change quickly or easily.

First thing: No one should ever be trapped in a situation, where they feel they must choose between bills/food/rent or paying loans granted for educational purposes and enabled/encouraged by the government. No one. Honestly it’s ironic in my opinion, that there is a lack of educational resources available for mitigating debt gained solely for the purpose of education.

Thankfully, there are also many, many rules in place, made to prevent your situation and others like it from occurring.

    1. Call your loan servicer or spend time on their website.

If you suck on the phone, go to their website. If the website sucks or is confusing, take short notes and write down any questions. The most likely best option for you is an Income Driven Repayment plan. IDR. However, some people may not qualify due to whatever loan scams were available when the loan was first taken out.

    1. The servicer representatives are paid regardless of what you do.

The person you talk to is not getting a commision. Your payments do not go to them. They are there to answer your questions. Their job is to keep the account out of default. They (probably) do not want you to go into default or declare bankruptcy. They (hopefully) want you to communicate, work with them and eventually make payments or contribute to society (more on that later). The government owns your debt. That debt is also probably insured or negligable. The government probably does not NEED your balance in full on time. They have other ways of generating income, like literally generating physical currency. Having wages garnished and getting drops in your credit score are from not doing anything and gnoring the debt and their notices.

    1. IDR.

On an IDR they will look at your income and any other expenses you might have. Some things count in your favor like paying your electric bill and rent, other things are irrelevant like a nyetflix subscription or paying for ubers. They determine through algorithms or math or something if you can afford to make payments or not. If you are truly in dire finanacial stress, you probably will get a deferment if you aren’t already on one.

    1. There are other debt forgiveness programs.

If you work as a teacher you can get loans forgiven. Same goes for certain types of public service. There are other repayment plan options. Check studentaid.gov, it has a forgiveness page with a wealth of information. It isn’t always easy to understand because there is a lot of nuance and circumstances covered. You can try calling their hotline number too but I had better luck with the servicer. Mine were forgiven due to being totally and permanently disabled. I had no idea it was an option.

    1. Conclusion.

There are other comments here basically saying “jUsT pAy it” which aren’t contributing to the conversation at all. They should be treated as what they are: trolls and losers. Fuck them. They deserve nothing, not a second glance, not a reply, not even a downvote. Fuck. Those. Pricks.

Good luck, don’t let your past define your future. Unless you want it to.

I try to follow a set of rules which define how i should live my life written in my own words, which essentially restate the golden rule/10 commandments/fundamental tenets/etc. I read them as myself, as if I’m giving advice to myself. Pronouns can be tricky. I don’t follow them perfectly and often will tweak the wording, hoping to avoid misinterpretation.

I call them my veritaclaritives. (veritas + clarus = loud and clear truth; probably bad latin)

    • Always look out for #1

    • Always be prepared for a #2 (e.g. romance, friendships, shit)

    • Only desire what you require

    • It’s only theft if they need it more than you (emphasis on NEED)

    • Create more than you consume

    • Help people up, more and before you put anyone down

    • Treat everyone as a friend until they prove otherwise (emphasis on both THEY and PROVE; the golden rule)

    • Make amends with your friends, before an unexpected end (r.i.p. Nivec)

    • Keep your friends close, be your own worst enemy

    • If thoughts of any enemy anger you, you’ve already lost (note plural)

    • Destroy enemies until they are unable to do you harm

    • All enemies can be defeated through unconditional love.

  • I don’t really think I’m important enough for doxxing to matter. I’ve even posted my social security number in a chat room before, just for a laugh. Also my banking and paypal logins.

One time after I did that, I met a nice person who privately messaged me. They were just like me, same mothers maiden name, same name for our first pet, even went to the same first concert! what are the odds?

Anyways so like a week later some hacker stole my identity. I couldn’t believe it. The crazy part though is that my credit score actually went UP. About a month later the hacker actually called me and tried to make me take my identity back but I knew better than that. No backsies. Heh, sucker. Have fun with your new wife, moron.

Honestly, I was happy to have someone to talk to for a bit. It was nice.

  • I’m sitting in the dark

Do you spend a lot of time in the dark? How much natural sunlight do you get?

I ask because I have felt like what you describe. Vitamin D deficiency might be a contributing factor. Supplements might help but the best thing is to spend time outside for 3 hours per week minimum, preferably in a natural setting away from gas powered vehicles.

    doing nothing right now.

Start doing something. Anything. Move your body. It can be as simple as walking for 30 minutes a day. You can get your sunlight while you do it. It’s fine if it is cloudy, it is not as good if you are indoors, even if there are windows. Exercise will get your blood moving. The hormones which regulate your mood might be malfunction or waste could be getting built up in your brain and causing depression. Get your heartrate up, let the blood carry waste out.

My college degree(computer engineering) got me nowhere.

Does your degree have legs? Is it supposed to carry you around? No, of course not. I think. I don’t actually have a degree. If I had one, I would be taking it to places. Especially places that have a use for it. Are there no jobs where a computer engineering degree is needed near you? These days even small businesses need an IT person. If there are none, start your own. I do not know what starting a business entails in Cambodia but it may be simpler than you realize. Start a computer repair shop. Offer to recover data for regular people, like photos from old hard drives and flash drives or sd cards with testdisk. Do it cheap, give discounts and start with a warning that you might not be able to recover anything or fix their computer and that you are a last resort, when no where else can help or they can’t afford a professional place, so you don’t have to worry about failing. Make a name for yourself.

Besides that, my country is a toilet now and rapidly becoming worse

It’s not too late for a career change. If your country is in the toilet, become a plumber. If it is rapidly becoming worse, find a way to slow it down, work to turn it around in any way you can think of. Become a politician and overthrow the goverment or die trying. At least you might die a hero instead of ending it yourself and being quickly forgotten.

    I’ve looked on Indeed

Indeed is trash. Find anything else. Even Fiverr.com or Legiit.com are probably better.

Last advice: Pick a goal. Even something stupid. Work towards it. Do not expect to acheive the goal. It is only the carrot on a stick to lure you to anywhere that is not the place you are now. You might be led to where you are supposed to be along the way.

I’ll throw in my vote for Manjaro because while it’s not perfect, it hits all of OP’s points nicely.

    • arch based
    • hard to break (but not impossible)
    • biased a little towards Gnome but runs KDE and XFCE great too
    • uses a curated rolling release

The last point is the most important. Rolling release means it updates regularly, so your packages will be mostly up to date. Curated means they do testing in an unstable repository. If an update breaks something, those changes aren’t pushed to stable.

I ended up with it after trying other distros but having trouble with my nVidia card. Manjaro’s MHWD tool installed their drivers easily (although slightly confusing with its unnecessary checkboxes) and more recently, I’ve upgraded to AMD and never had a single issue.

It’s not perfect but almost every issue I’ve had was located between the keyboard and the chair.

this is probably an edge case but I do when i visit family and friends. these trips are short and infrequent enough that a laptop would be an unnecessary expense and i’m not driving through mountainous areas with my tower. none of them use linux. most have aged windows or mac machines. they don’t care if i run a live system or puppy linux from a USB drive. i add a handful of appimages i’ll use at night or if there’s free time. I’m sure there are better ways but it works for me.

  • I am using Manjaro as well.

Are there Debian apps that you want to run but are unable to because Manjaro is Arch-based? I have read that it is not recommended to install programs compiled for Debian, that it is difficult to run them. Using a virtual machine is the recommended way to use them. Asking just in case but I do not think this is what you want.

Computers can only run one operating system at a time, unless you use virtual machines and hypervisors. Most operating systems are launched after the system uses a bootloader to get the system ready for the operating system. This is usually done by the BIOS/UEFI/firmware starting a bootloader, which then launches the operating system.

If you want a USB that you can plug into a machine that is already running, that has an active operating system like Manjaro or Windows or whatever, then have it start running Debian, like you would an Appimage or a Windows .exe program saved to a USB, that is not possible except maybe with a virtual machine program like Virtual Box or Qemu.

USB drives were not intended to be used as drives that run operating systems. It can be done, but it is not simple and can cause a lot of errors.

What do you need the USB for? If you can explain what you are trying to achieve with more detail, there might be ways to do it differently.
