As a Computer Scientist, I increasingly believe this tech might actually be poison for the human mind, and I’m not sure what to do about it.

I don’t believe dull people actually exist, there are only people whose spark hasn’t been lit.

I am also currently seeing several of my family members descend into the pit where they ask every question they have to chatGPT and immediately trust the answer… Haven’t been able to convince them that thing sometimes is utterly wrong and sometimes even lies !

It’s devouring resources and CS graduates that would be much better utilised pursuing something actually good and useful for the world.

I like Gnome’s apps, and I think I would install Gnome on any non-techie user’s computer.

But for myself ? I want all the options ! So I use KDE. Probably going to switch to a tiling WM, I’d like my whole desktop experience use tmux shortcuts, basically.

You don’t get build muscle using an excavator to lift weights. You don’t produce interesting thoughts using a GPU to think.

So I gave up. I use the YouTube website via IronFox on mobile, and LibreWolf on computers ; with lots of extensions to de-bloat it.

If this happens, I guess it’s Linux Phone time for me… I’m pretty certain GrapheneOS will be able to get around this abuse of power for a while, but it wouldn’t take much effort from Google to kill them too ; they almost already have…

Or maybe dumb phone time ? But I like browsing Wikipedia and playing chess and RetroArch on my phone, I don’t want to lose that just because big G$ said so…
