  • lol you’re thinking of the people who are now fully supporting the fascism. They were the ones literally threatening to kill me for being against the patriot act and the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan and George fucking bush. Those people will still tell you all of those things—in the same breath that they tell you the country is going down the drain because brown people exist.

  • Eh. I get what you’re saying, but so much of the disillusionment from the potential dem base is coming from their constant promises and constantly arriving at the obvious conclusion decades late and then acting like they’re the most progressive politician in human history. While in reality it’s a half step toward the policies we should’ve enacted forty years ago.

It’s not that people are like “so what.” It’s the deep seeded knowledge in all of us that the party will try to throw us crumbs and claim like they’ve always been on our side and are the most righteous policy makers that are saving us, when in reality they’re walking hand in hand with people that are pushing us to absolute limit of barely acceptable and then dangling what they’ve known they should’ve done forever ago in front of us when we’re finally at our breaking point.

They don’t care about us. They’re not beholden to us, and it shows. They’re beholden to money and are performatively throwing us scraps when they have an opponent so far right that it’s literally the threat of fascism. And they are very much responsible for the continued rightward march of the entire country.

  • But that’s what the author is saying. The “post war liberal order” of the last 77 years had mostly been a success of coming together to say that there are lines that can’t be crossed.

Now, at this point in the order’s timeline, those lines are being left so far in the rear view that they’re not visible anymore, while the empires that came to take down the holocaust are now cracking down on the people pointing this out. And critically, as pointed out later in the article, are taking notes for future wars.

Factor in the right wing fascists rising to power all over the world who are flagrantly walking all over decency and inflicting violence/turning the systems on enemies without much of a peep…well, things for the future look to be heading down a seriously dangerous path.

This isn’t business as usual. That is what they’re saying. They point out that this “established order” and international law have always been vulnerable to powerful actors moving the goalposts to serve and protect their interests. But this much drastic change in just a few years, specifically centered around Gaza is a horrific force—coupled with every other factor throughout the world— that seems to be upending any hopes for a decent future.

  • I mean, “many magnitudes” is excessive, I think. I personally think it’s great, it’s my favorite. But arrested development and community are the only two in the same class as community. Who is head of the class is debatable, but the writing of all three shows is just phenomenal.

Wow you’re missing out on some of the best sitcoms in history then. Community and arrested development alone, then you bring in 30 rock? I think those three are the most tightly and expertly written comedy scripts, period. They all ended up overstaying their storylines and you can pretty much lop off a few seasons of each, but as someone who watched them all while they aired, I have a deep, abiding love for them and still find joy in he lesser seasons. Do yourself a favor and catch up on these.
